This is well made, with a decent surface finish- certainly more than good enough for wood turning. The holes are chamfered on the back side of the plate, allowing you to use flathead woodscrews to attach your work. All good. But there’s a fatal flaw that prevents me from using this on my Powermatic 2014. If you look at the photos, you’ll see that the spindle of the lathe sticks out beyond the front of the faceplate, which means that I can’t attach a wood blank to it. The problem is that the collar on the faceplate that screws on to the spindle is far too short for any modern woodturning lathe I’m aware of. It’s less than half the height of the collar on my Powermatic faceplate. So it’s unusable for me. Unless your lathe has a very short spindle, or a large shoulder on the spindle that this can rest against, I’d avoid it. ... show more

The main consideration when testing a faceplate is whether it is machined well and runs true at high speeds. The VINWOX 6" Wood Lathe Steel Faceplate is well made and runs perfectly true. It has set screws to run the lathe in reverse safely and it has common sized holes for screws to attach the plate to the wooden blank. This plate fits my Powermatic bench top Lathe with 1 1/4" spindle with 8TPI. ... show more
