  • Great monitor for the price.
Size: DC-550 Pro
The Viltrox DC-550 Pro is probably the best monitor at this price point. You get a carry case, a sunshade, HDMI and USB-C cables, a battery, and a cold shoe mount. Reasons to Buy: - 1200nits of brightness - Responsive Touchscreen - Hotkeys - Control knob (if you don’t want to dirty the touchscreen) - You can load LUTS (SD Card MUST be in FAT-32 format!!) - Histogram - Anamorphic Desqueeze - Built-in Gyroscope (screen rotates based on orientation) - HDMI input & output - 3.5mm jack -5V USB-C charging OR 12V power cable charging - Internal Fan Speed Control Settings - Basically most of the features you’d expect from a field monitor (RGB, Focus Peaking, Zebra, etc) Reasons Not to Buy: - No ability to set custom aspect ratio - No ability to set custom anamorphic desqueeze setting, only the presets in the monitor - You CANNOT record to the monitor via SD card. - HDMI ports are on the bottom of the monitor, this could be a dealbreaker for some. Personally I’m okay with it. - White battery (seriously? the monitor is black/gray and the battery is just, snow white. AND the logo is upside down when you mount it) ... show more

  • The picture quality is excellent and brightness for outdoor work is very good.
Size: DC-550 Pro
The Viltrox DC-550 Pro is very useful and highly recommended. I have now used it in the studio and in the field extensively. The 5.5” monitor size gives a very crisp and color-accurate image that allows for a better judgment of the image then the smaller monitor of the camera. In the studio I have used the Viltrox DC-550 Pro for macro photos of jewelry. The larger monitor allows a better view and judgment of focus point, depth of view and correct illumination of the subject to be photographed. In the field I have used the Viltrox monitor to film and photograph small objects such as insects, mushrooms and flowers. Again, in this environment the monitor proofed to give a more accurate and larger image for producing excellent results. The monitor brightness can be adjusted and is very good also in bright daylight; the attachable sunshade is well-made and is a further benefit for work outdoors. The Viltrox DC-550 Pro is beautiful in its appearance and solid and well built; yet it is relatively light when considering its unique and extensive capabilities. It has many useful features and the controls and menus are intuitive. I have used the monitor with the battery attached, but in situations where the weight of the camera plus the monitor was critical, I have used it without the battery attached but with an external power supply tethered. I like this flexibility. ... show more

  • Does Not Work With Canon R8/Kondor Blue HDMI
Size: DC-550 Pro
Update: Turns out the problem was me! Push the shutter halfway and the screen goes away. Still odd that you get an "OKAY" button that serves no purpose but to confuse. Additionally, be aware that although there is a touch screen you cannot adjust anything on your camera (ISO, Shutter Speed, etc.) via the monitor, only the way the image appears on the monitor. On my Canon R8, the screen and viewfinder both shut down when HDMI is plugged in so to adjust anything you must unplug the HDMI, make the adjustment on camera, plug the HDMI back in and proceed. This is an untenable situation for any photographer unless you are only creating "talking head" videos in a room with consistent lighting that never changes. That is probably one scenario where this monitor is useful or if taking photos in full automatic mode where you never feel the need to adjust anything. Also note the Kondor Blue UNDONE HDMI cable works fine. Old Review: I bought the DC 550 monitor from Amazon, brand new, and it works with my Canon XA70 but I purchased it to use with my Canon R8 and it does not seem to work with it. When plugged in a screen comes up on the monitor that says "...HDMI output in standby may differ from The recording quality settings. When the camera starts recording, HDMI output corresponds to the settings." Pressing the "OK" button does nothing. This info screen stays on the monitor and has a button at the bottom that says OK but even though this is a pro model DC 550, the touchscreen does not work. The HDMI cable is Kondor Blue Undone, also brand new. ... show more

  • Pretty good overall, but lack customizability and software consistency
Size: DC-550 Pro
Good monitor for the budget, well built quality, light weight, awesome screen specs. But the UI and software is terrible. You have to manually restart after switching waveform mode, when you change one mode or color, it will also change others, ... they need more attention in the software. No multiple profile support, no custom ratio, no custom color for grid, no custom grid ratio, lacks a lot of future when compared to competitors. ... show more
