  • Impressive build quality. Optically great.
Size: 16mm F1.8 (FULL FRAME)
Upon the announcement and release, I purchased it as I was in the market for a Ultra Wide angle lenses. Do note this is Sony’s E-Mount and I am pairing this with my A7III and A7RV Shipping was definitely fast and the item arrived quickly to Singapore. The box that came with it was secured well with lots of foam and cut out to hold the lens snugly. Taped down to ensure it’s a brand new unit. The whole lens barrel is made of metal including the aperture ring and focus rings. The only non metal is the buttons and screen. Metal mount with a usb port for firmware updates and configuration. The screen is really useful for me as it shows the focus distance and liked the implementation, I am just curious that powering the screen will it consume more battery? What impressed me the most was the optical quality, great colours and sharpness corner to corner. I never has a lens under 500USD for this type of performance. It’s a screw on filter thread of 77mm. Oh thank for this as I do have lots of filters and on the cases of ultra wide prime is the bulbous front element. I never use it wide open as I am usually taking day time landscape/urbanscape sceneries. Though I can give it a shot for night city wide angle shots for having just a wide aperture of 1.8. For testing, the center image was really sharp even at the widest. Though stopping down really improves the vignette and colours and contrast start to stand out a lot more. This lens is able to handle the high 61mp resolution so don’t worry about it. I did lots of pixel peeping. The only slight let down is the lens hood and it does not snap tightly, and if you over exert a little more force, the hood might over run of its locking latch. This is the only negative, but only. Don’t let this hold you back but I am writing this so your expectations will be there. Viltrox produced an excellent lens and been my first purchase with this brand, I do hope their future releases are able to be of this quality. Having more options and choices is definitely great. They also threw their in-house branded ring light and their pocket friendly rechargeable mobile light which is really handy, this free gifts amount up to about 59 USD. So what a bundle on top of this fantastically priced lens. ... show more

  • Great Lens, Outstanding Value
Size: 20mm F2.8 (FULL FRAME)
I was looking for a wide angle prime for travel, and the Viltrox 20/2.8 came up in my search. Online reviews are generally positive, and the price is excellent so I decided to make the purchase. Initial impressions are fantastic! Build quality seems reasonable and AF performance in my initial testing has been great, but I haven't been able to put it through challenging low-light situations yet. Image quality seems to be very nice, but again that's based on limited testing thus far. Based on third-party reviews I'm not expecting Zeiss or Voigtlander-like color, or perfect edge-to-edge sharpness but in many ways I LOVE a lens with character and this meets those requirements. The fact that this lens is so affordable is the proverbial "icing on the cake", and if I can get reasonably good images from it in the future it will have more than met every expectation I would have for a lens at 2x-3x the price. ... show more

  • Autofocus is okay
Size: 20mm F2.8 (FULL FRAME)
This is an affordable lens that is compact and lightweight. It’s great for vlogging and capturing landscapes. The focal length works well for filming in small areas. Pros: Wide lens that doesn’t sacrifice quality. Doesn’t look fish eyed. Very clear. Works well in low light. Compact. Lightweight. Great for travel. Looks good on the camera. Comes with a lens hood. Very affordable. Cons: Autofocus is a little slow. Autofocus struggles at night. Autofocus motors makes noise. The autofocus is the only draw back but the issues can be resolved by adjusting the focus and aperture areas. Focus breathing is a little slow, but it’s not as bad as you think. The motor makes noises, but this is fine if you’re using a wireless mike. You can’t notice the noise when you’re out and about, but I wouldn’t use this in a studio setting. ... show more

  • Amazing lens for the money, even if it cost twice as much
Size: 75mm F1.2 E(APS-C)
I bought this to use with my Sony A7RV (full frame) in crop mode. It's so good that I couldn't take it off the camera since I got it. The fast aperture allows beautiful photos even in low light, with very pleasant colors and great character. The build quality is amazing, with all-metal construction that feels better in my hands than even my Sony GMs. For this price this lens is a steal. Even it cost twice as much, it would have been worth it. When it comes to lenses I am pretty conservative, sticking to Sony, Zeiss, and an occasional Tamron. But this lens makes me watch out for what Viltrox will come up with next. ... show more

  • Perfect Everyday Wide Lens
Size: 20mm F2.8 (FULL FRAME)
It's 20mm with very little distortion, surprisingly sharp across the whole image, and has great and quiet autofocus, (after a firmware update.) Flaring is controlled and I haven't even had to think about it most of the time when shooting. (I haven't needed the lens hood.) It's also very small and light, meaning it's easy to use for selfies and vlogs without arm fatigue. It's small and versatile enough that I just leave it on my camera and toss it in my bag. Another nice bonus is the close minimum focusing distance, allowing for a wide pseudo-macro feeling with nice background blur on full-frame. As for any cons: The aperture must be adjusted in-camera. In manual focus mode, the focus ring has no hard stop and can turn endlessly, and so has no markings, requiring you to look at your screen or viewfinder anytime you think you might've bumped the focus ring. All in all, it would be a solid value for this 20mm at $500, and still better than most in that range... but it's under $200, the price of a budget APS-C lens. Everything else I want to say just feels like hyperbole, but I think my feelings should be pretty clear by this point. Edit: Autofocus still gives me trouble here and there. Extreme changes in focus can be kind of loud and not as quick as other times. ... show more
