  • Does a great job IME
Style: 6L Vinyl Record
I knew the noise was going to be annoying before I buying and was about what I expected having been around ultrasonic cleaners in the past. Best situation for operation is if you are able to operate the unit in another room with a door closed. I was surprised at the amount of noise from the vinyl rotating motor, more than I expected but it does work well. Other than the noise issues, the unit seems to do a fantastic job on vinyl. I set the temp to 29C, fill the tank with distilled water, 100ml of simple green, and a splash of isopropyl alcohol and let it run for about 15 minutes. Once completed, I thoroughly rinse the vinyl with tap water and then a final rinse with RO water and towel dry. The vinyl appearance is pristine afterward and the playback is phenomenal with greatly improved noise reduction. The price paid was very reasonable and I am completely satisfied with results; hope the electronics last. ... show more

  • Finally: An Economical Ultrasonic Cleaner, for Vinyl Too!
Style: 6L Vinyl Record
I bought this with the primary goal of using it for (vinyl) record cleaning. Plusses! * Effective and economical ultrasonic cleaning * Adjustable heat * MVP spacers for records * Simultaneously clean up to 4 records Minuses ): * Vinyl spacers could be better * Motor mounting is for cave man * Axle mounting could be better Also Know * Temp gauge is inaccurate (meh) * Noisy!!! (meh) * BYOB This unit is dead simple to use. Just be aware the printed thermostat calibration could be pretty far off (mine reads really low). Ultrasound cycle is limited to 30 minutes max on a dial timer. No worries there. Using this for vinyl? It comes with 5 plastic discs, a spacer cylinder, and a nut that all stack onto an axle that spins around in the water bath (slowly) thank to the driver motor/axle assembly that hangs on one side of the unit. The motor thang is nice and is mounted in aluminum cast. There is no consideration for mounting this aluminum body to the edge of the bath itself, so I used a bit of packing material to pad the interface. An axle attaches to the motor shaft with a collar and set screw--the screw is cheap and will strip if you put pressure on it. And it will work loose at some point anyway because the thread pitch is from kindergarten. This could be a lot better. The axle is a nicely machined part. Why forsake a decent set screw? The PTFE spacers are ok. They could be better engineered for this purpose though. I think the material is fine. The radius falls slightly short of covering some labels -- these spacers are supposed to protect the labels. It would also be better if they had a shallow bore so that bulgy labels would be enveloped instead of causing a spacer to simply gap out. I don't mind the inaccurate temp dial. It's not that far off, and it doesn't detract from my ability to use it. For vinyl, you only need 1/5th of the scale anyway. It is noisy and horrible sounding and terrible for ears. All of those. I wear ear plugs around it, and I put it in the basement. That works for me. For vinyl cleaning, or anything else for that matter, you're on your own as far as chemicals and process. Stay safe folks! ... show more

  • Great Tool
Style: 6L Vinyl Record
This machine does an amazing job cleaning dirty vinyl. Tried other methods but could only clean the surface. This method cleans deep into the grooves and you know it’s working by how dirty the cleaning solution gets. The records not only look so much better - they sound fantastic! It is noisy when it’s working but so is a vacuum cleaner. ... show more

  • Fantastic
Style: 6L Vinyl Record
An ultrasonic record cleaner needs to be a few things… easy to use… does a good job… make records sound as good as possible. I ran a few tests to get to the answers I needed. These tests were just for my personal benefit, but I’ll share the results here. Test #1… MJs Thriller 40th. I have three of these and 2 are still sealed. I cleaned one with a drop of dawn and a couple capfuls of spin clean record cleaner. I added 2 capfuls of isopropyl alcohol for record #2. #3 was an uncleaned sealed copy. I showed no difference between #1 and #2. #3 was veiled with less clarity. This was not ‘night and day’ in difference, but playing these back to back revealed a difference. Test #2- Bjork’s new album. I ordered this on line and had it ultrasonicly cleaned by them and then shipped to me. I bought a second copy from my local record store. I cleaned LP#1 with this cleaner and left LP#2 alone. I assume they used a super expensive ultrasonic cleaner. I got similar results from test #2… this cleaner got the ‘shmootz’ from the pressing off which helps with clarity. It’s nothing crazy, but it is noticeable. It did just as well as the expensive cleaner. Test #3… I cleaned a bunch of my records after my results were shown to be positive and didn’t harm my test records. After I had cleaned a bunch of records, I cleaned some nasty flea market and garage sale finds. I muddied up the water with about 10 disgusting records. These weren’t miraculously saved, but they sounded better and the junk that came off these records was staggering. Final thoughts… I’m happy with my purchase. I don’t need a $4000 machine to clean my records. I will clean all my old records in due time. Snake oil? I don’t think so, but my ‘scientific’ test was bias as I wanted this machine to work. At this price it is worth the investment. ... show more
