Description

Overview Close-focusing, apochromatic, and compact, the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO from Venus Optics is a sleek telephoto prime designed for APS- C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Its macro design enables a greater- than-life-size 2:1 maximum magnification along with a 6.7 minimum focusing distance to suit working with close subjects. In regard to the optics, it uses three extra-low dispersion elements to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve a high degree of clarity and color accuracy. Additionally, it is a manual focus lens, with an internal focusing design, and has a nine-blade diaphragm to contribute to a smooth bokeh quality to suit shallow depth of field applications. • Excellent lens.... for APSC cameras
Small size and weight, well built, extremely sharp, wide aperture (f2.8), up to 2x magnification, well priced (almost perfect), created for APSC cameras. For people like me used to focus manually, and using a tripod if necessary, those limitations are no problem, in fact a very acceptable compromise. But autofocus (and image stabilization) may be good or necessary for many users, and of course that means bigger size, weight and cost but, on the other hand the lens could be used also as a (good) regular lens. Is all about what is more important for the user. ... show more

  • Venus Optics Laowa 65mm
Wow… you’d be hard pressed to find a better value for glass at this price point. It has edge to edge sharpness when you nail the focus- so yes, there is a learning curve to it. Also, I had a crop sensor camera (a6600) at the time so I’m really curious how this performs on a full frame sensor. Either way, this is a great lens! ... show more

  • Never be bored again! Amazing photo ops in your backyard with this lens you never knew about!
I am a relative newbie to macro photography. I recently purchased this for my Sony a 6000. I also shoot with a Pentax K3 DSLR. I have enjoyed the 105 mm Macro lens which is a 1:1 magnification lens. The Pentax lens does a great job; BUT! The Sony mirror-less is way lighter with the 65 mm lens, making it easier to get steady free hand focus. The 2 X magnification and the APO glass makes it such a joy to use, giving image quality of lens two to three times more money. The Laowa 65 mm lens is fully manual with an easy to use aperture ring and a user friendly manual focus ring. It is also a great portrait lens, allowing smooth Bokeh. You will not be disappointed! ... show more

  • Outstanding Macro Lens
This is an outstanding macro lens. Crisp and sharp, at both short focal distance and at standard distances. It makes a great portrait lens also. The macro capabilities are phenomenal. It’s very sharp, even at moderate to high f/stops. I’m very impressed with it, and will likely buy other Laowa lenses in other lens mounts. ... show more

  • No Auto Focus
This lens has no auto focus or stabilization. It is very easy to focus on my Sony A6600. It's good for macro and also for walking around. I love that it's so light It's going to be on my camera a lot of the time

  • Nice fit and finish, but contaminants in the lens
Dust particles in the lens cause shadows in images. Returned it. Otherwise very nice build quality and image. Wish it was built with more quality checkpoints. No lens should leave the factory with contamination that affects image quality. Will update this with sample images soon.

  • Wow, how much fun
What a great lens for Macro. I'm not an expert but this is such a joy to use. The image quality is gorgeous and for macro you don't use auto focus anyway. If you are looking for an APCS macro lens, get this. You won't regret it.

  • Great Lens / Great Price
The service was great, received the lens in 1 day. It's my first macro lens and so far so good. It has great versatility. Using it on my Sony A6000. Now it looks like I have to upgrade my focusing rail. It will be a fun new photography adventure. I would recommend it for your first macro lens.
