Description

An after-market fence is a fantastic way to ratchet up the performance of a basic table saw, turning it into a precision tool. And this big-capacity Vega system is easy to install and a pleasure to use, with a very agreeable price for passionate woodworkers and do-it-yourselfers. The quality and capabilities of this "utility" model match those of the professional version that Vega’s better known for, and though the company markets it for saws that don’t get "extremely heavy use," it’s absolutely rugged enough for the exacting home woodworker. Hands down, the best feature about this first- class fence is the micro adjustment. We’ve all done it: tap, tap, tap on the fence, hoping for just the breadth of a hair’s change in position. Enjoy that? We don’t either. But this Vega has a threaded rod and thumb nut that moves the fence thousandths of an inch in either direction. A full rotation of the nut carries the fence 1/16th of an inch, and the cam locks the position securely. Another feature we love is the fence bar itself: It’s high, wide and has a channel along its length, perfect for substantial sliding jigs, like, say, a miter spline jig. And while the finish on some of the other parts isn’t as refined as it could be, the fence bar is sweet. It’s made of aircraft quality aluminum alloy extrusions, lightweight for easy handling, but extremely rigid, and we like the way the black anodized finish cuts down on friction. The fence rides beautifully on the rails, and we found lockdown to be rock-solid. Installation wasn’t nearly as complicated as we had anticipated, and it probably won’t take you more than 30 minutes even if you happen to have one of the saws that requires drilling a couple of holes. But if you’ve got a Delta Unisaw or contractor model, a Powermatic 66 or a 10-inch Craftsman, for example, you’ll be ready to roll without the extra drilling. This is the larger of the two models in this line, and you get an impressive 50-inch capacity to the right of the blade and 8 inches to the left. (The smaller version offers 26 inches to the right of the blade.) You could spend a whole lot more money than this on an after-market fence, but the results you’ll get from this Vega will rival any big-ticket fence’s performance, and you’ll depend on it for the ultimate accuracy and reliability.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste From the Manufacturer Upgrade your saw to a precise cutting machine at a reasonable price. It was specially designed to use the existing bolt holes (no drilling required) of Delta Unisaws and Contractors Saws, Powermatic Model 66 and most Sears 10 in. saws. Little accuracy is needed as the fence mounting system allows full adjustment. (Installation may be as little as 15 minutes).

  • I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT.... HOWEVER THE INSTALL IS A PAIN (but worth it!)
First off, I adore this fence. It's solid, straight and true. However, the install is a task, but totally worth it in the long run. To get things perfect, takes time, skill, and some extra tools. That said, if you want one of these your are automatically qualified to install is IMO. This took me off and on an entire day to install. That includes a few breaks and a couple of trips to ACE Hardware to allow them to assault me several bucks each for some metric screws I needed for my Hitachi Saw. I happen to have good stock of 5/16-16 bolts etc, so those were handy. The directions are pretty close to worthless, except for the exploded diagram at the end. The instructions need some decent pictures. However, thanks to the other reviews for posting pics, and there are several great videos on YouTube you can watch. The most useful thing to me was that I got to see what if SHOULD look like when finished. The rails are such that the right side of the blade has 50" of cut size. I don't need this as I have a Track Saw and a 12" Miter Saw. I wanted somewhere in the neighborhood of maybe 34-38 inches. I'm also installing it on a Hitachi 10 Saw and I have wheels on it already. I do not want too much length on the right side, mainly for balance, and the fact that I have a tight shop, so I move it sometimes. I do not want extra legs or wheels on the right. I also have a saw mounted custom Router Table between the rails. I will bet that you will need to AT LEAST drill new holes in your saw to install the rails. In my case, I have new holes and new 5/16-16 holes tapped in the front rail/tube. Like I said, extra tools helps, so I used my Tap&Die set, along with my drill press. This requires precision, so I would not want to do it with a hand drill, but I'm sure people can do it with care. You also need a decent level, a small adjustable square, a number of clamps, and patience. I also use playing cards to adjust the fence off the table height. Three card for me. The front mounting brackets and adjusters work well. I purchased a new "sticky tape ruler" for the front rail, as the one supplied is in the wrong place. I bet you will do this too, as the chance that all saws have this aligned correctly are not much IMO. I got this one and I'm happy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09VXFH58F?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details The real rail install was much easier, but I did need to drill three new holes (about 1/2" do you have some play. And I made a nice oak hardwood spacer to push it off the back of the saw a bit. IMNO their brackets for the back rail are not so good. They are now in my "small scrap metal" bin. That said, the real rail is strong, straight and true. It will easily hold my router table. They include some heavy steel flat brackets just for this. Once I installed a new Diablo Blade with the addition of set of very cool stabilizer discs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000P4NTRW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8 I was ready to try my first cut. (I have to say these stabilizer things are GREAT! They not only stabilize, making the cut more accurate, but they also add mass which make my 110v motor less likely to try and stall. I love them)... I almost had an out-of-body experience on my first cyt. The Fence is Solid, True and Accurate. Both in the locked and unlocked position. With the new blade even fairly hard oak went trough like butter, and the was no hint of binding or misalignment. I wish I has done this before now. Anyone want a used Hitachi Fence??? I will probably post some pics and maybe update this review in the next few weeks. ... show more

  • Everything I was looking for, and a little bit more.
Yesterday the package arrived and this morning I installed the fence. It took me about two hours, but I have some mobility issues and took my time. I also added a bit of extra work for myself while uninstalling the old fence. I was replacing the original Jet fence that came with my Jet JWTS 10JF Table Saw. All pieces shipped as expected, and the build is good. I had no issues with unfinished edges nor other rough spots in the materials. The instruction sheet was clearly written and provided sufficient diagrams and information needed to quickly get the rails mounted to the table saw. No extra holes were needed to fit the rails to the table saw, and the leveling bolts helped quickly get the rails adjusted to the proper height. The fit of all the pieces was nicely done for a “utility” model, and the plates provided to support a table extension weren’t needed, but are a nice add for those who might need such an extension. Adjusting the fence to be in parallel to the blade was very easy; just slide the side of the fence to one of. The mitre gauge slots, bring the fence in alignment with the slot, and tighten the four bolts to secure the fence in that position. The feel of the rails is very solid. The movement of the fence along the rails very smooth. The micro adjust function works as expected, and. There was a minimal amount of adjustment needed on the gauge that marks the position of the fence in relation to the blade of the saw. I am very satisfied with the installation ease and the functionality this will add to my table saw. The new fence is more stable than the old, and has a better overall fit. I am looking forward to many years of use from this new fence. ... show more

  • It almost a 10
This is a great option for the price. I have it on a 1960s Craftsman 110 series table saw I rebuilt. Night and day over stock. Pretty straightforward installation with 2 holes drilled on the back of the saw top. Pretty easy drilling. Takes little effort to square up and calibrate. Once it's set up it is extremely easy to use and adjust. I have the same down sides as the reviews I read before I purchased it. Some of the hardware is unfinished black steel which will eventually rust if not oiled regularly or painted before installation and there are sharp edges that need softening so your not getting scratched or cut. The fence top is a cheap piece of formica and is little to be desired. It was chipped out of the box and had to have been when it was assembled in the pIant. I covered mine with a vinyl wrap but a thin plywood invert could be used. The cover just seems cheap and a corner that was cut in design. There were several issues with the paint, missed spots and scratches. Last they used a aluminum tube cut down for the spacers from the fence to the square. They are not fitted and need to be pushed in when setting up so they dont stick out agian just a cheap corner cut type thing. Thay said it works great and has nice features, like the designers took in all the functionality aspects and nailed them and skipped on the finishing aspects. ... show more
