  • REAL WORLD satisfying performance binoculars that won't disappoint.
Style: 8x32
Directly to the point, these are really nice binoculars, optically and ergonomically REAL WORLD pleasing in every respect, even through my eyeglasses. I am very particular about image quality and enjoy the sheer pleasure of clearly viewing the natural wonders of nature. Sure, they are not my Swarovski ELs, Zeiss Conquest HDs or even my Pentax DCF WPs... didn't expect them to be, but I still have them with me everywhere, along with one of the others, depending on where and what I am doing. I can't say that about other binos owned in the past. These are comfortable, convenient and in my hands much of the time....filling a definite nitch that others did not. Like you read in other reviews, they are well built, fast focusing, comfortable and, again REAL WORLD satisfying, doing what good binoculars do, and admirably well. With these you definitely get more than you pay for. Call me crazy but I constantly compare the views through these little 8 x 32's with my Swarovski EL 10x50's and Zeiss Conquest HD 8x42's with amazement and no regrets. For me, they serve the purpose for which I purchased them extremely well. It would truly have been a shame not to have discovered these "little brother" buddies to my pack. ... show more

  • Immediate eyestrain and black borders. But very saturated colors.
Style: 8x32
Almost immediate eyestrain when using them. Tried them for about a week because I really wanted them to work out. Nope. Terrible. Great color rendition though. Very saturated colors. I have used about 20 different models of binoculars lately and none gave me eyestrain issues. Weird that that did — fast and every time. Also, I had to keep my eyes in the just the right position to avoid black borders in my view through them. Only a few binoculars I've tried had this problem and these Vanguard ED II binoculars had it the worst of them all. ... show more

  • High quality, lightweight, versatile binoculars
Style: 8x32
The review is for Vanguard Endeavor ED II 8x32. I bought my pair at B&H, which is why Amazon does not list this as a verified purchase. I needed affordable 8x32 binoculars that were lightweight, with bright optics and good eye relief, and which also came with lens caps and a quality case. Almost went with Carson 3D ED (have two full sized Carsons in my collection already, both with excellent optics), but Carson did not include lens caps, and Vanguard was running a promotion, so I settled on Vanguards in the end. So far, they've been solid performers. 1) Optics: daytime 5/5, nighttime 4/5. These binos are bright and sharp with good contrast and accurate color rendition. No chromatic aberration to speak of. The Japanese ED glass certainly shows its prowess. At night, the small exit pupil causes annoying vignetting, but the good news is that there is no image ghosting around bright lights or the Moon. Anyway, I did not buy these for star gazing. If you are thinking astronomy, I would strongly recommend Nikon Action Extreme ATB 10x50. You will be impressed with their night sky rendition. 2) Ergonomics and build quality 4/5. I remain ambivalent about their open bridge design. Maybe on a larger pair of binoculars you can get a better grip with an open bridge, but these are small binos, and you can only stick a couple of fingers into that open slot. I feel that the closed bridge design on 8x32 binoculars, like what you find on Zeiss Terra, Carson 3D ED and Polaris ProBirder Ultra HD, allows a steadier grip. Eye relief is listed at 17.5 mm. I wear glasses, and consider 16 mm to be barely adequate, 17 mm good, 18 mm excellent, and 19 mm outstanding. Well, for some reason eye relief on these binoculars just feels adequate, not good or excellent. 3) Accessories 5/5. Vanguard is known for their quality bags, and this one does not disappoint. Final verdict: excellent binoculars if you find them on sale for under $250. Otherwise also consider Carson 3D ED, Zeiss Terra, Sightron SIIBL, and Polaris ProBirder Ultra HD. ... show more

  • The perfect hunting binocular
Style: 8x32
I looked at a dozen different binoculars in all different brands. Store had an eye chart set up on a beam 75 yards away. After looking at all the traditional brands in a price range from 150 to 600 bucks, I had about decided that there was little difference between most, and the increase in resolving power was not enough to justify spending more than 200 bucks. Then the vanguard rep handed me these. It was the only pair in which I could read every letter on the eye chart, and distinguish all the symbols. Read all the signs within my visual range clearly. No out of focus halos at edge of field, and color was fine. got them home and used them outdoors and at dusk. They had more light gathering power than my "better than very good" 8 x 40's, and a noticeably brighter image at twilight. These are for deer hunting on big ridges, where you glass the terrain in front of you constantly as you move. These were the ones I thought I could look through for hours. Nice neoprene strap for hunting, and snap out eye cups and locking diopter. An excellent hunting binocular (armored, waterproof, fogproof) but you would not go wrong buying these for any activity. ... show more
