Larger men often wear their pants below what we women consider our waist. Having said that, the fit of these pants suits the way my son wears his pants (and his ego thinking he is slightly smaller). I ordered several pairs of van heusen because of the quality of the pant and the reasonable cost (particularly if you track prices for a while). These are so much better than what I have seen elsewhere. Big men like to look good too. Frankly from now on, I will only consider Van Heusen in pants. I also like the free returns that Amazon offers for many of its clothes (but read the fine print because not all returns are free). We have tried other brands but these are the only ones that we have been pleased with. I am 5'11" and 265 lbs currently, requiring a 45" waist and a 31" inseam. I purchased these with the matching Haggar's in 46x32. Both fit exactly the same and both are awesome. Nice material, loose cut, lots of belt loops, not too tight in the crotch, etc. The Haggar's, however, have a button on the inside and the outside of the zipper which is appreciated. The Van Heusen's only have a button inside the zipper. The other difference is the interior of the pockets, both of which are roomy. The Van Heusen's have a black striped lining, while the Haggar's have a charcoal grey striped lining, neither of which are visible. Both seem excellent choices. The image is of Haggar. I have purchased these tan (also gray) Van Heusen slacks from J.C. Penney for about 12 years. However, our local JCP has discontinued selling these slacks, and they were not on the JCP website. They are comfortable and have enough room in them without being loose. The material and stitching are worthy of their price. The expandable waist is certainly an advantage and eases the room one may need at the waist. I will now continue to purchase from Amazon. I also loved the fact that lengths are in one-inch measurements rather than two-inch. The only issue that can be said about these slacks is that they are not summer-friendly. Unless one is inside with air conditioning, they tend to be hot. But during the spring, fall, and winter they are great. UPDATE: I just purchased a pair of these tan and gray Van Heusen slacks. I do not know if the manufacturing process has changed or what, but my size was now WAY over-sized and the crotch material almost hung to my knees. I had to return them and order the next size down in the waist. I have not received them as yet, but I am hopeful this will cure the issue. Also, this is not like I have lost an overabundance of weight. I have purchased and have worn a waist size 42 previously. The waist was too large to the point I would need to tighten my belt too much. They have always had a little more room than other pants of the same quality, and I have appreciated the extra material in the pleating. But, this time there was just too much material. I never planned on buying these pants. But sadly, my cousin died and we had to go to the funeral. My husband recently quick smoking. He used the Lays Method. He swapped cigarettes for potato chips and you guessed it, his old pants don't fit. Also, he's 6'4 and pants which basically makes finding clothes that fit him equivalent to finding the lost city of Atlantis. But Amazon always comes to the rescue. With the click of the mouse we were able to get same-day delivery of these miracle pants. Seriously, he loves them. They fit perfectly and are made well. My husband loves these pants and wears them every day. I usually buy them at JC Penney but they have been sold out in the size and colors that he likes so I was thrilled to find them on Amazon with free/fast shipping and none of the crazy JCP timed sales and discount codes to deal with. The Van Heusen pants I purchased are all exactly what I wanted, however, I did received one pair of Haggar pants that is not what I wanted. I've heard that they are interchangeable but the grey VH pants are a dark charcoal. The grey or "graphite" Haggar pants are significantly lighter and my husband will not wear them. My husband is tall 6’ 2” with a belly. His inseam is 36”. I purchased the 38X36. The pleated dress slacks are not for tall men with a gut and skinny long legs. They are for tall men with thick legs and a big butt. The pants were much too long, more like a 38 inseam. We were going to keep them but decided they do not look neat and professional. Didn’t want to spend money on a tailor either. The pants would need more than hemming. If you’re not truly a big man, do not purchase. Tall men and big men are not synomous. ... show more

These have got to be the most comfortable pants I have ever owned. They are great quality dress pants that move and flex with me however I move. Other pants tend to pull at the knees when I squat and I have to pull the pant legs up to move freely. These I don't have that issue. They have a double close system with a button and a metal clasp. The sides of the waist band have an overlapping panel with elastic band for flex and give. Perfect for a big and not so tall guy. Seriously, every time I put them on I think about the MIB comment about "It's time to put on the last suit you will ever wear". These are the only pants I will wear any more. Very comfortable. I love these Van Heusen Pants. They look incredible and are very durable. Being a big and tall man I appreciate the elastic waist as it allows me sit comfortably without having to adjust the position on my waist (some pants I raise higher on my waist when I stand and lower them when I sit.) I have bought nearly identical Van Heusen pants like these at JC Penney for $70-$110 dollars so $35 on Amazon is a ridiculously better deal. The only "negative" is that these pants are thin so if you live in a cool climate you will not want to be outside in them very long.
