  • good quality for the $$
Size: 38 mm
It is always hard to tell if something is a keeper before trying it on, or seeing it up close. The quality is very good overall. It is solidly built. One aspect I was not clear on is whether the bezel circumference is even on the larger 42 model. I it larger than the case on the 38/39 which is something I did not like. The crown kind of digs in, but that could be a function of how it 'wore' on my wrist. Band hole adjustments are never perfect for 'every wrist', and that is likely why it dug in a bit. The next notch up was tight, else it would sag down a tad. The strap seemed comfy overall (rubber). Fabric was reasonable too. The lume is fairly bright with minimal charge. I did not do an overnight test though. I ended up sending it back the next day, without wearing it other than a quick size checkout in my home, as the bezel size compared to the case is off putting YMMV. The visual top heavy look doesn't work for me. It is more likely to get snagged during the course of the day if doing any tinkering, etc. I recommend this based on the quality if the aesthetic and design work for you though. I may consider other vaer options in the future based on the quality feel for the very reasonable prices on their offerings compared to the competition. ... show more

  • Just shy of great
Size: 38 mm
This is a very nice every day watch. The bezel has a nice responsive click and sharp enough edges that even with wet fingers it’s easy to manipulate. The bands that come with it are comfortable and sturdy. The 20atm water resistance is great for days at the lake and the sapphire crystal is solid and tough. The movement seems dead on (based on my short time with the watch). My only complaint is the lume. Frankly it’s pretty bad but how often do you check the time outside in the dark? If Vaer added a tritium version of this watch I think it would be close to perfect. All in all a good buy. ... show more

  • Great everyday watch.
Size: 42 mm
This was marketed as a great every day watch, and it certainly is. I have other watches from Breitling, Omega, Rolex that I wear quite often. You know what the difference between those three watches and this Vaer is? I can wear the Vaer anywhere I want without worries. Truly an every day watch. In the ocean, boating, driving, high altitude, camping. It's accurate, looks great, comfortable. It was marketed as an everyday watch, and so far it is incredibly true to the name. I submerged to about 98feet with the watch on, ZERO issues, great visibility. Beat up in the trade wind surf at Magics on the BI, no problem. Only took it off to shower, didn't even take it off when I got out of the ocean to rinse it off in potable water. Heck, the following week I was at 15.5k ASL in an unpressurized cabin. Watch was just fine. My ONLY complaint is the NATO strap took a little bit of wearing in and out of water to make the back more pliable. I can totally live with that. ... show more

  • What a perfect watch for men.
Size: 38 mm
38mm and NO date complication makes this watch clean, reliable and reminiscent of the older skin divers, but with 20atm of pressure rating. Work or play, guys It came charged and time set. Appreciated touch.

Excellent watch and performs really well. I’m in construction and I hunt/ fish every weekend and it has been a perfect watch. I’ve tried them all in the price range and it is above the rest

  • May be the perfect watch
Size: 38 mm
Is there a perfect watch? I guess that's debatable and depends a lot on personal preference but this comes close. Among dive watches costing less than $300 you'd be hard pressed to find anything better. I love that they offer two sizes as well. So many watches today are enormous wrist clocks and since I have a smaller wrist, they look ridiculous on me. The 38mm version of the DS4 is perfect. I have several vintage watches and it wears much more like those on the wrist, very understated and classy. The case is hefty and sold with beautiful contours and finish. The screw down crown is substantial and easy to operate. The engraved case back is a thing of beauty. The watch comes with two bands, an FKM dive strap (that alone is worth $40 - $50 if you bought it separately) and a khaki colored nylon strap. You can also use any standard 20mm strap. The design is such that many straps look good so you can easily change the look of the watch for different applications. For swimming and outdoor use, the FKM is probably the best choice, however. I enjoy wearing my vintage watches but this will be my workhorse watch for every day and what's better than a workhorse that looks and performs like a show horse? ... show more

  • For this price, good luck finding a better quality dive watch anywhere!
Size: 42 mm
If you haven’t heard of Vaer, do yourself a favor and do some research. What they are doing right now is making some of the best dive and field watches for the price point you can buy. This DS4 is a perfect example of their craftsmanship in a no frills package. Classic dive style, with 200m water resistance, screw down crown and caseback, and with a sapphire crystal (good luck finding that at this price). The bezel action is crisp, indices all line up perfectly, the dial has a beautiful sunburst effect and with solar movement, it’s set and forget. The FKM rubber tropic strap is excellent quality, super pliable, and you get an extra nylon strap. The straps being quick change means you can add any strap you want easily. For this price, good luck finding a better dive watch anywhere! The two founders of Vaer are very involved in all facets of their operation and design and are doing some great work right now. This isn’t some big corporation pumping out mass produced pieces. This is a small operation making some great watches at reasonable prices you’d be hard pressed to find somewhere else. If you’re at all concerned about the origins of this watch, don’t be. The movement, the finishing, everything about this watch is top notch in every way. The Horween leather strap in the picture is from Vaer and is beautiful! The ridged FKM rubber strap is from StrapHabit, another small business doing top quality work. ... show more
