Description

The idea for the Vacu Vin Wine Saver emanated directly from the taste of spoiled wine - something that its inventors wanted to prevent once a bottle had been opened. The device was the first of its kind within the international market and has revolutionized the wine preservation process. It is now used in over 35 million households and more than 80 countries throughout the world. The Wine Saver is a vacuum pump that extracts the air from an opened wine bottle and re-seals it using a rubber stopper. The airtight vacuum inhibits the oxidation process that is responsible for the deterioration of wine. The vacuum is created by placing a stopper into the neck of the opened bottle and pumping it until resistance is detectable. The pump incorporates a patented 'click' mechanism that indicates when a sufficient airtight environment has been established. The Vacu Vin Wine Saver is suitable for all but sparkling wines. It is highly durable and easy to clean via wiping with warm water and conventional detergents (if necessary). The Vacuum Stoppers are dishwasher safe.

I have redone my experiment several times and updated my rating and review accordingly (original review at the end). Tips for success: * Bottle should be stored upright. Regardless of product description, storing on the side will let the liquid loosen the seal and the bottle will eventually leak. * Spirits store better than wine, which both keep much better than other fermented drinks such as champagne, brut, or beer, whose built-up gasses weaken the vacuum seal over time. * Keep pumping until it becomes physically hard to continue. The click trigger timing varies by device, but happens way before ideal vacuum state. (You can weigh the bottle with a very sensitive scale to see this.) Sometimes I'd have to keep pumping through 20 or so clicks before there was little enough oxygen left that it got painful to keep pumping. Good workout to counteract the calories 😆 * Use laboratory grade parafilm over the mouth/top of the bottle after vacuum sealing. This greatly locks in the seal and extends the vacuum time. Using the above tips, the quality of the beverage sealed is really quite amazingly preserved weeks after opening. I will update this review after some bottles I've sealed have been stored for months this way. --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- Original review: --------------------------------------- Product doesn't work at all really. I bought 4 identical bottles of wine and drank half of 3 of them, then sealed them with: a cork, the Vacu Vin vacuum seal, and the Vacu Vin vacuum seal with stretch cling wrap over the top and reinforced with rubber bands. A couple weekends later, I tried all 3 and compared them to the 4th, unopened bottle. Results: Cork only: best taste and still had some gas build up upon uncorking Vacu Vin only: leaked and tasted so awful that I'll use the rest for cooking Vacu Vin with stretch wrap, rubber bands: decent and preserved most of the taste, but cork alone was better Conclusion: unless you're saving wine for a few hours later, Vacu Vin is all hype and no quality. I challenge the positive reviewers here to repeat my experiment with their favorite wine to see for themselves. ... show more

I have used the original version of Vacuvin for several years, and have been pleased with the results. My only question about this new version is its durability. When I tried to remove the stopper for the first time, it came apart. It went back together easily, but I now question how long the stoppers will last. ... show more

Works great. Audible click is prefect to know when to stop pumping. Seal stays great even when bottles stored flat in my wine cooler. Never had a leak problem. One note for users, DO NOT aggressively operate the pump. The T-Top handle is only pressure attached to the mechanism using raised plastic ring into a groove. Once the T-top pulls out of the groove, it will no longer stay attached after one or two pumps. Am going to try to epoxy it and see if that holds up or see if there is a way to use a cotter pin to keep it together. ... show more

I cook with red wine, not fairly often, but I do not drink reds. The wine sits for a while and is always fresh the next time I cook! It’s very easy to close and pump the air out. It clicks within 4-5 pumps. You have to make sure you’re putting it in properly and you won’t run into the issue of it not clicking. I have two bottle laying down in the refrigerator and no leaks have happened yet. It’s mandatory you hear this clicks to ensure it’s proper secured or you will probably experience the leaks people are saying in the comments. ... show more
