The software that comes with my Shapeoko CNC machine allows for engraving text with V-bits. When doing this, the different widths of strokes in a character are reproduced by plunging the V-bit to different depths into the workpiece. The wider the stroke is supposed to be, the deeper the V-bit cuts into the workpiece. V-bits of 60° and 90° seem to be most common for this sort of work. A 30° V-bit like this one will cut more deeply into the workpiece, and that's the look I wanted. Using a wider-angle V-bit to engrave small text will result in a very shallow carving. One thing I question about this bit is that the point doesn't come to a point. Its tip is 1mm wide, as stated in the product title and description. I'm not sure why they did this, as it makes the carving less deep and less sharp. Perhaps it's to make the bit more durable for harder materials? ... show more

I have a small desktop CNC machine to make various projects. I own several SHARPRO bits and this bit is just as good as the others I own. I used the 30 degree bit to do some engraving for some personalized signs. It cut very clean and precise. I compared it to other 30 degree bits I have and the angles look identical to the others. I typically used pine or aspen for most of the signs I make, so the bit was just as sharp after cutting several signs. I really like this brand of bits. I am using this bit for engraving and it seems to cut/engrave polycarbonate clean. Will update on how long the edge last after running this for a bit longer on jobs. I would recommend this bit for engraving.

Fantastic bit for my CNC. Very sharp. High quality materials. Fits perfect in my Makita palm router (1/4") shank. The standout from SHARPRO is the clearly labeled case and details for the bit. Keeping track and making sure I'm using the right bit is always a task, and this simplifies things a LOT. Thank you! I used the bit to run a couple of small test passes and was impressed with the clean lines it made. I was using a veneer plywood with a stained surface. I made some small 1/16 and 1/8" depth passes and it was clean on both sides. I have some future projects planned for this and will update with any issues. I am very happy with this bit. ... show more
