  • It lasted a year
Used perhaps 30-40 times, it worked great until it was no longer recognized. I can’t completely rule out the PC, but I think this just died. I’m still happy with having purchased it.

  • Works great!
I bought this GPS receiver for use with winlink and other computer/ radio purposes. It works very well.

  • Great value
I got this for 20 bucks, which is a steal for a pretty decent chipset. At first use, it locked on to 6 sats in less than a minute, while indoors near a window. And it works fine on my Mac using the $7 GPS Dashboard software, thanks to standard NMEA output. Nice to have a long cord to be able to position the GPS away from my big monitors too. ... show more

  • Works with Window 11
I would prefer the possibility to use another transporter than UPS since they are really badly organised and slow. Even if it was an oversea transport UPS used 2/3 of the time for the last 10 miles.

  • Did a tear down on the device
Bought this device with the intent to cannibalize it for a definitive time source. Tested it before disassembling by attaching it to a usb port and reading the output for accuracy. (1) I tested under Linux, compared to similar GPS receivers, this device used a /dev/cu* device rather than a tty. (2) It provided accurate time and gps information. (3) The internal device was well glued into it's shell. I had to destroy the shell to get to the device. There are no screws. (4) The RF shield (not shown) fell off during disassembly. It was not well soldered on and had to be resoldered. (5) The SOC chip used, the UBLOX Ubx-G7020-KT is the "standard" grade device. It is not the more rugged G7020-KA, "automotive" grade device. (6) There is a small 1.2V battery on board for a real time clock and to preserve settings. This would typically allow for faster signal acquisition. However, after 2-5 years or so, when the battery eventually dies, I would expect this device to fail. I would not recommend this device for harsh environments. Because (1) The manufacturing process used is flawed in that no gaskets are used to prevent infusion of moisture. (2) The manufacturing process/soldering was insufficient to keep the RF shield in place during disassembly. (3) The UBlox chip used in not rated for harsh environments. You get what you pay for, in my case, it was a bargain - but don't trust it if safety or cyber security is ever going to be an issue. (The battery was a pleasant surprise, but I do wonder why the low end device has this) ... show more

  • How to attach to Win 10/11
It seems some of us have issue with finding how to use this with Windows. I'll post a page that tells how and is very easy, step-by-step. Should only take 5 - 10 minutes. Now, as to whether google maps will access it I have no idea, I haven't the time yet to see. Should just be able to turn off the wifi in Windows, drive around a bit and see fairly quickly. My only Win laptop has to run XP and I don't want to pull a NUC just yet to find out. However, Windows Maps will employ this device so at worst that can be a fall back option if you lose google maps. Win Maps is free, just type 'Maps' in your Win Search box on the Start Menu page and if it isn't installed it will install. If it is already installed a it will do a quick update and you're set. It has some features I like - 3d cities, speed warning, traffic, etc. The only thing I see is not all of the 3d cities pictures are up to date even though the streets and highways all seem to be very current. My sister's home, on the other side of the country is current but mine is around ten years old. Another feature is being able to display home addresses - no more trying to read mailboxes from the pictures! Anyway, here's where to find the information: gpswebshop.com/blogs/tech-support-by-platform-windows/how-to-connect-an-external-gps-gnss-receiver-for-windows-10-maps If the link gets erased just go to GPSWEBSSHOP and search "Connect a GPS/GNSS Receiver for Windows Maps". And once you have it installed and working the same site can tell you how to use it with Google Earth for Windows in their 'Tech Support by OS - Windows' page. ... show more

  • Worked with BtkTime sync on Windows 10
I needed GPS receiver for off-Internet time sync. This unit worked with BtkTime Sync without requiring additional drivers. Windows 10 Professional 21H2. Use Denice manager and open serial I/O and find what COM port is assigned to this device. Open the COM port with Putty or other terminal emulator that can connect to a serial data stream. Putty opened and begin displaying NMEA data stream records. Use Putty copy and paste to paste the data into a on-line (web site) NMEA decoder. The decoder should display lat and longitude and altitude and time. Test the unit by disconnecting it and move it to another USB 2.0 port and verify that windows keeps the same COM port. ... show more
