  • not rigorously tested, but it appears to do the job
first thing's first: follow the instructions for the adhesive "hold time." this product especially, but even 3M extreme duty double-sided tape, abound with negative reviews on the adhesive strength, despite proper cleaning and prep of surfaces. the written instructions indicate to leave the tape exposed to "tack up" the tape, and this is echoed by advice given for the proper usage of 3M tape. the included instructions say to leave the tape for, i think it was 15 minutes in warm temps, and up to 2hrs if temp is < 70F. the temp when i installed was exactly 70F, so i waited one hour, and so far (one month in), no falling panels. I also want to reiterate that the backside of the insulation should also be cleaned and prepped. my hands and its natural oils were all over the insulation while trimming to size, so it bears reiterating that these surfaces should also be cleaned and prepped just as well as the garage door surfaces themselves. anyway, the included utility blade was quite handy, and drives home the point to constantly be changing blades in any process with a utility knife. when sharp, the insulation cuts like that elusive experience when you're able to push through wrapping paper with sharp scissors. one install/fitting tip: many photos show the insulation being cut all the way around the V-shaped hinges at each garage door segment. this works... but of course leaves a bit of an uninsulated gap at the hinge. i found that it was easier and just as effective to simply cut two vertical slits in the insulation, flush with the interior vertical surfaces of the hinge, and then tuck the resulting flap behind the roller piece. (in the photo i've included, the top part is the panel i did second, where i figured out the "flap" technique, and the bottom panel is what i did first, and cut around the entire hinge.) in closing: no, this isn't going to look as polished as a true insulated door. but the quality of the insulating panels is polished enough to give a nice finished appearance. compared to other systems that use expanded polystyrene or other more DIY approaches with insulating boards, this is the better pick hands down for ease of install (e.g., not having to cut small foam panels to fit inside the door panel flanges), and also not having to worry about added weight for your garage door motor. anecdotally i'll report roughly a 5-degree swing from pre-and-post install during 30-40F degree nights where i am. i expect similar performance in the dog days of summer. even if the shift in energy spend balance is minimal, i know i would much rather have that extra 5-degree cushion than without. ... show more

  • Great product, easy to install
Installed this on my garage door to serve as a second layer of insulation on the exposed styrofoam and to replace a missing chunk of styrofoam. Install went easy, the provided double sided tape seemed to work well (followed the instructions for waiting 10 minutes to allow the tape to tack prior to applying the insulation). Finished product looks great and makes the door looks more complete. I definitely notice less airflow through the door now and it seems to be moderating my garage temperature better than before. ... show more

  • Went up easy and looks great
The double sided tape was not enough so we used spray on glue as well. Looks good and already warmer!

  • Lowered our garage temp
My husband and I put this up together. We used the tape provided as well as a mechanical hold with the garage door bolts. I feel like the tape probably would have been good enough to be honest, but better safe than sorry. It has definitely lowered the temp in our (3 car) garage which in turn has lowered the heat radiating into my daughter's room which is next to the garage. Our garage fridge isn't working as hard either. ... show more

  • poor adhesive
I had purchased this previously and was sent a completely different adhesive tape. The tape sent on the most recent one was completely useless. Luckily I had tape left over from prior purchases because the tape that was sent was equivalent to sending me scotch tape.

  • Great insulator. Excellent customer service
I've a 3-car garage: 1 door for 2 cars, 1 door for a single car. I bought the 2-car pack first. This review is for the single-car door. 1 thing somewhat of a surprise was the texture of the white side is different from the 2-car door version, not as smooth but slightly thicker. It's also more expensive (more than half the price of the 2-car version). Installation was fairly easy. Remember to pre-measure each of the garage panels first and cut to size. The panels don't always have the same size. The included cutter is sharp enough for the job. Applying the (blue) double-sided tape took a little practicing. After fumbling on the first few panels trying to peel the blue protective side off, I ended cutting a small cross in the middle the tape after sticking the tape to the garage panel. That allows me to peel off the blue tape a little bit easier. After the installation, the garage came out to be about 5 degree cooler than the outside hot temperature around 95-100 degree (summer). I've a window AC in the garage which can cool it down to 10 degree below outside. I plan to add the garage vinyl sealer around the garage door edge. Hopefully that will keep it even cooler. Mike is very fast in customer service answering questions. Also even sent 1 extra role of blue tape. ... show more

  • Not worth your hard earned money.
Not worth the time and effort it took to put it up. Product does not stick as described and I did everything according to directions. Constantly peeling off. I finally just decided that I was going to buy an insulated door. Save the money on this and buy a new door if you have to or something solid that’s not in a roll. ... show more

  • Double sided tape lasted less than 6 months
The double sided tape this kit came with did not last. Within a month after installation, I noticed that the insulation was separating from the tape. After 6 months, it's all separated and is only held together by bolts and plates attached to the garage doors. :-(
