Love this product for my grinder, and also the SuperGrindz version for my Jura superautomatic espresso machine. Using this on a regular basis allows me to go for longer periods before I have to take apart my grinder and give it a thorough cleaning. This is a quick and effective way to clean espresso/ French roast residue out of a grinder. The instructions are a bit sparse; I threw a few coffee beans through after cleaning to clear the (non-toxic) dust from the grinder.

I got lazy and kept forgetting to disassemble my OXO coffee grinder to clean it out until this morning when barely any ground coffee came out the chute. Coffee emergency! Luckily I didn’t have to work. Whew! Half awake I set about brushing and scraping all the packed ground coffee dust/fragments I could off the bur and up the chute and the part that goes over the bur and lifts out. Exasperated at the mediocre results for all of my hard work (not to mention the mess it made), I suddenly remembered I had bought these on a whim not knowing if I’d ever use them. One capful was all it took. They dislodged all of the remaining bean fragments and stuck on residue from the oily beans. I ran a small amount of beans twice through before using again and of course wiped out the remaining powder it left. Let me tell you that these really do work. My coffee tasted so much fresher after using these. I haven’t used an Urnex product I haven’t liked so far honestly. If you’ve got a coffee grinder, you might as well give it a shot. My old Capresso coffee grinder finally died recently (had it for over 10 years). With my new Baratza grinder, I wanted to do it right from the beginning and keep it nicely maintained for a nice long and productive life. I used the Umex according to directions and it REALLY works well! I ran it through and not only did the tablets grind down nicely, a lot of coffee residue came along with it. The grinder was nice and clean afterwards, as advertised! Unbelievably easy to use with excellent results! Do not forget to run the grinder again with old coffee beans to clean out any cleaner grinds; you don't want it to mix in with your real coffee. This grinder cleaner does exactly what it is supposed to do! It cleaned the burrs of my Baratza Sette 270 in seconds (see before and after pic) with very little work on my part and no lingering aftertaste like some grinder cleaners. Just be sure to follow the pictorial instructions: 1) add a cap full of the cleaner to an empty hopper 2) run through the grinder 3) run some old beans through the grinder to push through any extra and remove any residual cleaning residue. DON’T SKIP THIS STEP!! In addition, I recommend washing the hopper and thoroughly wiping down the outer rim of the grinder to make sure all residue of the cleaning agent is gone so it won’t affect the flavor of the coffee. This grinder cleaner is so easy to use and would be VERY useful for someone who switches bean profiles/flavors often. The residual coffee oils in the grinder from previous beans can affect the flavor of the final product. I fresh roast my beans and use them for 8-10 days. If I switch to a different bean or roast, I’ll clean my grinder in between and run a small amount of the new bean through to prime it for future uses. ... show more

I like to grind oily flavored coffee beans and after some time period, the grinder began clogging frequently. I would clean it with a brush only to have it clog shortly after. I've been manually dismantling and cleaning my Eureka Mignon manuale ever since I got it and no matter how well I cleaned the machine, I just couldn't get the oils fully removed from the burrs. I will say that I don't think these are a complete replacement for taking your grinder apart for regular maintenance and cleaning but I do think it's a necessary part of the process and should be done every quarter depending on how heavy your usage is. I make about 2-4 single shots of espresso a day, dismantle and clean out debris every 6-8 weeks and will use these every 3-4 months. I will say that my espresso grinds are nice and fluffy again similar to when I first bought my grinder. The only negative --which I think is unavoidable-- the debris from the tablets got lodged into where debris normally accumulates within the grinder/burrs. So I dismantle, clean, reassemble as much as possible, run tablets, dismantle, clean out again, reassemble. But man, those espresso shots after are 1000% worth it. One last point: this is a pretty expensive product but is necessary for regular maintenance. I read that someone said these have an industrial smell, I did not experience that. ... show more
