Our 6 year old coffee pot was infrequently cleaned. The coffee started tasting extremely strong and bitter. I cleaned it with vinegar, then vinegar+water, 20 cycles of clear water and scrubbed the water tank by hand. The water I ran through to rinse it was still yellowish and smell like rancid coffee. I used Urnex Coffee Machine Cleaning powder and was super grossed out when fishy smelling flocculent brown liquid came out. After two clean and rinse cycles, the water came out clear with minimal odor. Photos: blue liquid is fresh Urnex, brown liquid is what Urnex dislodged from the machine, clear liquid is after 2 rounds of cleaning and rinsing. The coffee tastes better after using this product. Plus, we are no longer drinking a little rancid (possibly containing bacteria and mold?) coffee every day. I will be buying more! ... show more
