  • Exactly what I needed
Ever since the Apple TV 4K came out, my wife has hated the slide trackpad style remote control it comes with. She never could figure out how to make it work. For a while We just gave up on it. I would do the work while she watched the movie :-). But when I saw a little cost alternative that had a regular direction pad, I thought I would give it a try. I figured this remote would have to be programmed in the Apple TV remotes area of the settings, but to my surprise, it worked right out of the box. It does need two AAA batteries. But for me, with a second generation, Apple TV 4K, no programming was required. More importantly, my wife loved it! it made sense to her to navigate through menus with the up down left right wheel at the top of the remote. With the Select button in the center, she was able to do all the things she likes to do without issue. And the price couldn’t be any better. While It’s not black, I can live with that :-). I am very satisfied and I think you will be too. Do note that you will have to program it separately to control your television volume or whatever audio source you are using. ... show more

  • An almost perfect replacement for the Apple TV remote
To begin, I am not a fan of the original Apple TV 4K remote that came with my unit. The touchpad leaves much to be desired. Enter stage left-this universal replacement remote with a 4-position arrow pad and OK button in the middle. The concept is like that of the newer Apple TV remotes without the $50+ price tag. Out of the box, I added 2 AAA batteries and went to work. The remote worked immediately without any programming. Overall, it worked with most of the functions I tried. I even operates my TV (Hisense) even though the description didn't list this as compatible. however I knew that before ordering. This operated as expected except for one issue-no dedicated home button. You can hit the menu button to return with just a couple of clicks. With that said, I still enjoy using this remote more than the Apple remote. If you are looking for either a replacement remote for a lost one, or for a replacement for the one you don't like and don't want to spend a lot of dough, this could be your replacement. ... show more

  • Its not exatcly what I expected or hoped for.
As someone else did, the best way to review this remote is with a Pros & Cons list. Pros: This is an inexpensive replacement or secondary remote for the Apple 4K. It uses AAA batteries which is a feature over having to rechare the standard Apple Remote. The configuration of the buttons on the remote is a welcome change from the standard Apple remote. Cons: This is a cheap-looking remote that feels cheap in your hand. The backlight is sketchy and does not light up evenly on the entire remote. This truly looks like a fake remote you would give to a child. The remote has No Voice Function. All that being said, compared to the cost of a replacement remote from Apple, this is a much cheaper remote that works well. YMMV ... show more

  • It just works!! Great value.
I orderd this remote my 4K Apple TV, which is connected to an Insignia TV in the kitchen. Out of box and with 2 x AAA batteries (not included) installed, the remote just worked without any configuration. The power button turned the TV on and off, while volume worked well to modulate the TV's audio output. Meanwhile, the directional buttons, play, pause, forward, reverse button all work in controllling Apple TV. A bonus on the design is the fact that the button light up. Though it's both a positive and negative since lighting means the remote may die faster than it woulud without lights. As for quality, the silver finish on the remote is a tiny bit course and the battery cover door feel light and is a bit flimsy. But for the money and its functionality, and with a remote/device at this tiny size, these are minor issues that do not detract from its core functions or usability. For these reasons, it's still a 5-star device to me. ... show more

  • Works with Gen 4 Apple TV but not all buttons
I am using it on Apple TV 4 gen and most of the buttons work that are crucial to use the Apple TV. Pros: The home, arrow, enter, rewind, forward, and pause keys all work perfectly. The remote lights up so it is very user-friendly. Cons: The few keys that do not work are the power key, stop, and volume. Apple has a way to configure 3rd party remotes but this remote does not pass their configuration test but you can still use the remote's arrow key and enter key, which I think are the most important key anyway. Even if the power key doesn't work Apple TV will wake up using the home key. Usually, you need to hold down the power key to power off but that doesn't seem to work with this remote. I tried holding down the home key but that didn't work either. I just set the Apple TV to go to sleep after 15 minutes, so it is not much of an issue. ... show more

  • Much better than the Apple remote
This is a welcome upgrade to the Apple TV remote. The buttons are more precise, so there is much less accidental presses and more getting it do do what you were intending to do. The big plus for me is the large circular button. On the Apple remote this works like a joystick controller and is super sensitive and subject to exceeding your intent, while that same large button on this remote is a straightforward click with no sliding. The same goes for the outer ring -- it just provides a simple click instead of a sliding motion. For me, this is a major improvement and I can highly recommend it -- plus it is very reasonably priced, so it is easily something you can try out. ... show more
