🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Uniden DFR1 Radar Detector has been favorably reviewed for its long-range detection capabilities, 360° protection, clear color icon display, and highway/city modes. Users appreciate the reliable alerts, solid build quality, and overall efficiency. The product's range varies, with a lower end of 300 ft to a higher range of 800 ft. However, some users may experience interference from other radars while on the road - though this seems to happen while stationary.

Pros

  • 👍 Long-range radar and laser detection capabilities
  • 👍 360° detection coverage
  • 👍 Easy-to-interpret color icon display with signal strength indicators
  • 👍 Versatile City and Highway modes
  • 👍 Solid, compact, easy to install design with user-friendly interface

Cons

  • 👎 Range could be insufficient for some users (300-800 ft)
  • 👎 May pick up interference from other radars on the road
  • 👎 Some users report it doesn't always pick up lasers

Should I Buy It?

If you need a reliable, easy-to-install and use radar detector with good features, the Uniden DFR1 is a sound investment. It provides ample alerts to potential radar or laser signals on the road. However, if you require a longer detection range or often drive in areas with a lot of radar activity, you might want to consider all your options.

  • Works great, must have realistic expectations
Model: DFR1
I bought this for a 1600 mile road trip in May 2024. My only other radar detector was the excellent but really annoying Valentine one gen one (v1) that got stolen from my glove box after the thief broke my window. This has drastically better false alert filtering than the old V1. I love City mode 1 (City plus a dash is indicated). I get pretty much no beeps for automatic doors and most SUVs. Highway mode, it turns on all the detection frequencies. Out of the more than 100 cops that I passed on my trip, yes it was that busy, about 20 of them had their radar guns on. The other 80 plus had them off, so naturally the detector did not go off. Sometimes cops use a feature called instant on radar, where they wait for a speeder to drive by with their radar off, only to turn it on for a couple seconds. If you're on a dark and lonely highway, with no other traffic, guess what will happen with a $1,000 detector and a instant on radar gun. You will get the same ticket as this $55 detector. This detector has noticeably shorter range than my V1 on the highway. But, if you hear a detector go off at 2 mi out or half a mile out, you're going to slow down all the same. This radar detector has a really cheesy mount, but somebody mentioned that there's an aftermarket Mount for it. I will be getting that. And the stock mount is adjustable by either squeezing or opening up the metal to make it level. With a stock Mount, there is a bit of bounce to the detector, but it seems to work just the same. Is this as good as a top-tier detector? No, it was the cheapest model from the last generation. It has limitations in range, but it is way less annoying to use than my old Valentine one. It is an excellent deal for the price, but having said that I plan on keeping this one in the spare car, and buying a uniden r4 for my main car. Remember that most cops do not have their radar gun on when you pass them. Best bang for buck low cost radar detector, from my research the ones in its price range are noticeably worse in operation. ... show more

  • Great value and actually works
Model: DFR1
I was skeptical that it would even work at this price. To my amazement this device is amazing. I wondered if it even worked for a while because it never went off. It does seem to filter out false alerts though. I read that the Mazda cx-5 vehicles give off a lot of false alerts because of their motion sensors. Well I happen to have a cx-5 so I thought it may go off all the time lol. That’s not the case. Maybe the fixed that issue with the vehicle though I’m not sure. Mine is a 2024 if that helps at all. I use my Uniden and Waze navigation app together. Works great for me and no tickets. ... show more

  • Only 600 to 800 ft range, for me workerd better than the R7 for the price.
Model: DFR1
Of course this is not better than the mighty R7 but I live in a city where 95% of cops and highway patrol turn of their radar, Daily I pass them with this or the R7 and no detection and how can you detect a radar that has been turned off but when they're turned on both detectors are able to sense the frequency with no problem, First of all just because this is a $50 radar detector do not assume you are buying an entry level Whistler pr another false alert toy brand that is going to give you all false alerts and not one single real alert, This DFR7 Is a Uniden meaning the eagle eye and other components are genuine Uniden parts and you get to get a Uniden experience from both, OK now the differenceces are that this radar is able to detect the same K band store doors and the same KA police radar but with less sensitivity and range for example if I become close to the pharmacy doors the R7 will detect the X band way sooner than this and with the band strength on display and the direction only on the R7, same for police KA similarly the DFR1 is capable of detection of those bands with less range sensitivity and range also will not display direction either but it will catch bands from front and rear of the vehicle and would not miss a detection the R7 does so which one I would buy the R7 at a deal of 399 (yes post Black friday from Amazon) or this one for 50, If I was living in a city where they turn on their radars I would definitely have kept the R7 and not bought this one but this way this does the job needed without dashing extra 500 or 550 for more luxurious experience. Honestly I ended up returning thi DFR1 because after more testing (2 weeks after 1st receive) this has a range of only 600 to 800 feet meaning the patrol car most likely noticed you whether you were in front or back of them and yes this one has front and rear eye but with range this short the only benefit I guess is it will alert not to anything crazy like aggressive driving or further speeding before the sirens turn on, I believe from my vast reading that the best detector brand is going to be escort with the 360 international version being on top since it's the only one out of the advertised gatso detectors that really catch gatso plus the ability to detect everything else but since I do not live in California or any Gatso states am going to order the Cobra RAD 380i with advertised 2 miles range that cost 100, Uniden is a great brand created by Japanese engineers, I will wait for the upcoming R9 or check escort and maybe VAL 1 Gen 2 which isn't a comprehensive radar detector plus being pricey. As a conclusion this radar detector is better than nothing based on my experience and other people reviews and definitely worth the tiny price tag on it, Think of the price of ticket compared to the price of this or any reliable detector that is not just an ornament because lots of the cheap one are just that but this is different. ... show more

  • Cant beat it for the price
Model: DFR1
Although this Radar Detector might not have the range as the top of the line ones, it still works extremely well and has saved me from countless tickets. I have owned it for around a year and my only complaint is there is no K band filtering but other than that this is a great radar for under $100.
