These birch panels are a great alternative, since I don't like fighting canvas texture and "give." The wood grain can show a bit sometimes. Because I use water based paint I have to prime them and then smooth the resulting raised grain . I recently saw that an artist used a carving tool in addition to paint to increase her options. I hadn’t previously tried birch boards for oil painting and this product met my expectations. I primed the board with white acrylic before paint with water mixable oils. Very nice result. Just paint the sides black or white and you have a built-in frame on your masterpiece.

The packaging was very carefully done but a couple of corners were not quite right. Seemed to me the slight damage occurred before the packaging. The build of the frame is cross braced so it is very sturdy. Painting surfaces were nice. Price pretty good. They are thin but I am not a fan of super thick paintings.
