I have some pretty good maple pool cues, in various weights, 18oz, 19oz, and 20oz. I got this Cue-King cue because I wanted to see how a composite poll cue handled. I'm impressed. At the price, this is a great cue— especially for someone at my intermediate-advanced (or moderately advanced) level. My cue weighed-in at 19.01oz (538g). I’m pretty sure that when I ordered it, I ordered a 19oz cue, so I’m happy with the weight because it’s exactly what I wanted. But I’m a bit confused because now the Amazon listing says 20oz. I guess that the Amazon listing changed or they were previously offering options for different weights when I ordered mine. The stick is straight and rolls smoothly across the table. The balance point is about 2” further toward the back than my maple cues (~16-inches from the butt vs ~18-inches from the butt). Balance point is a matter of personal preference. There are pros and cons. The front plays like a lighter cue while overall, the cue has good inertia. I like it. It screws together snugly and concentrically, and plays very nicely. The grip is perfectly grippy, and the rest of the cue slides smoothly in my hand. My maple cues have fancier designs, but I really like the all-business, spartan slate-gray composite look of this Cue-King cue, which kinda makes it stand out from typical cues. I’d expect the carbon-fiberglass composite to be very durable and very warp-resistant. The tip is nice and thick, but it needed some conditioning, IMHO, because it was rather hard/shiny and squared-off. I have a tip tuning tool that I used to shape the tip and give it some texture for chalk adherence. It only took me ~2 minutes to shape and condition the tip. Now it has a great shape, feel, and chalk adherence. It chalks up nicely and I have no problem putting spin on the cue ball with it. This cue plays at least as well as any that I’ve used, but it's a fraction of the cost of some similar-performing cues. I’m no expert, but I think this is a great cue—especially for the price, ($36.99 at the time of this review) so I’m giving it 5-stars. ... show more

First off, I'm reviewing this cue with the understanding that serious players wouldn't buy this. Probably wouldn't even look at the product page. We tend to be equipment snobs. Anyway, the cue is straight. It is advertised as 20 ounces, but as you can see it's almost 3/4 ounce shy of that. There is no weight bolt in the butt, so it is what it is. The tip is a modern layered tip, which is nice. It did, however, come un-shaped. Generally speaking the tip should be shaped approximately like a dime (or a nickel, matter of preference). This one came pretty much flat. No big deal to me, as I have the proper tools at hand. But a new player likely wouldn't, so that's definitely a ding. I got this primarily because I was curious how a composite cue would play. I have shafts made of maple, maple with carbon fiber core, and pure carbon fiber (and they all play differently). This plays differently as well. I doubt a casual player would ever notice the difference. Except for the sound! When the cue hits the cue ball it makes a weird "Thok" sound. Not a bead thing, but definitely odd. Anyway, it's OK. If a little more attention had been paid to shaping the tip I probably would have given this 4 stars (with the understanding it's for very casual players). If anybody makes it to the end of my relatively long winded review, here's a piece of advice for you. Buy yourself a proper tip shaping tool. It's essential. ... show more

This is a very functional pool stick. It's not as fancy as some sticks but it looks good. Most of the 2-piece sticks I've had are a little flimsy and can be crooked, this stick is very strong and straight as an arrow once assembled. It's well made and I didn't find any manufacturing flaws or extra glue or paint runs. Solid and straight, no compaints. Recommended! ... show more

This was an emergency purchase. I had old pool cues and didn't think much about it. While I was gone some guests were staying at the house using the old cues. One had the tip broken off and when the person used it for a big shot that required some real push, they totally damaged the top of my table. It's going to cost $600 to repair it. That's a lot more than it would have cost to replace the cue. This one is so smooth in the hand. It doesn't have old scratches and paint chips like my old one did.
