    • Great meter
Meter works well. I tested it's accuracy in our lab and it performs very well. I suspect that people having issues with function are dealing with getting the modes down right. The manual is not clear in many areas.

    • HVAC REFRIGERERATION MULTI METER
Multi meter was purchased for a new apprentice with no HVAC/R experience. This meter is user friendly and this made it the perfect tool for a trainee or a seasoned professional. When you unbox this UEI meter, the first thing you will notice is the weight and the sturdy feel of this unit, is built very well with a heavy duty case that will withstands years of use, accidental drops, rain, snow and even works freezers with operating temperatures of -30° and it has operated flawlessly. It has all the features required to test and troubleshoot HVAC, Refrigereration and Food Service Equipment. With dual K type thermocouple probes, it makes it the perfect meter to get temperature differantial readings or monitor 2 systems at the same time.     • Fills in a few gaps in my tool box, only a few...
-------------------- NOTE: This review is for the DL489Combo kit. Apparently Amazon has changed the listing and now this is just the DL489 without the current clamps. -------------------- The first meter I purchased had a fault with the DC Amperage function. It would flash between OL and exactly 1/10th of the actual current. The RMA process with UEI didn't seem too bad to start, but I wasn't too excited about having to mail in the stuff and pay the postage, then wait for however long for them to repair or replace it. So I had Amazon send a replacement via 2nd day air and the replacement works fine. Clamp meters are pretty handy for measuring high currents in the breaker panel and under your car's hood. That's the primary reason I purchased this. The clamp is really nice and smooth considering this is somewhat of a budget meter. Unfortunately, right out of the gate the manual is actually pretty terrible in most regards. The "Overview" page which has an A through Z diagram pointing to all the parts of the meter is a different page from all the descriptions! So you must flip back and forth, back and forth to follow along, while they could have just easily fit everything on the same page. The diagram for the DC Amps: <600A actually shows connecting up the leads! There are other mistakes here and there. I did check the online version of the manual and they've made a bunch of corrections, which is nice. Some niggling negatives: - The buttons are firm and hard to press and vague. I suppose this is why EVERY button press triggers a very loud beep which can't be turned off. - The backlight keeps turning off even while you're pressing buttons, which is annoying. Do the LEDs really take THAT much power? - I really was hoping the dual temperature measurements could be put on the dual display. No, only one at a time or differential. What a sad mistake! - Ugh, the carrying case... One tiny pocket inside, stuff falling out all over because you unzip it about 80% of the way, but you can't unzip it all the way. And there is only ONE zipper, so you have to go ALL the way around to get it open. Dual zippers would have allowed you to open it slightly and remove the meter, especially since it has a belt strap. Also, some more deep internal pockets/partitions with closures would have helped. - This is the COMBO kit, so you have two temperature clamps included in the box, but no way to carry them around. So you need another/larger case for them. Can't keep it all together. Another very sad discovery. (Update, got the AC319 and it is just right for the two clamps and some extra accessories.) OK, now on to a few positives: - non contact voltage detection is nice for safety and works even if the meter is off, although a tad hard to control and no sensitivity setting, so in practice it's a bit of a waste (the manual talks about "isolating" a wire from a bundle. Not going to happen, as it picks up AC from multiple feet away in some cases) - light for the clamp area, nice touch even if it is a little dim because it uses an LED from the 90s - has a magnet on the back - of course can measure both current and voltage at the same time. Funny that the manual doesn't even show this, but I suppose the concept of a dual display will be obvious enough? The jury is out on the accuracy, as I don't have any standards or specifically calibrated equipment, but for items around the house it agrees well enough with my other meters and power supplies.     • Real nice meter with one flaw that I can deal with.
LIke the meter, wish it came with micro leads for boards but that's ok. Only real flaw is the magnet isn't quite strong enough for field use. I do HVAC for what that's worth. It should hold hard to a metal surface. If you slightly tug the leads when positioning yourself or moving around it will take the meter off the surface. Probably because of all the batteries it holds. I'm fine with the batteries, they've lasted forever, and I leave it on for long periods rather than on/off all the time to try to save them. You'd think they would be able to have it tested to be sure something like a magnet is sufficient. That said, I'm glad it got it, temps, amps, cont, range, high/low, inrush, capacitor testing etc. is great. And it survived without a scratch or issue the times the magnet let go so that's good but I'll probably get a stronger one because I don't want to risk a final death blow. Last item, it is replacing my trusty Flukes that are just old and tired. None of them have batteries or nearly the features. Flukes are great but you have to spend a lot more for the same features. We'll see how long this one lasts in comparison. ... show more

Unfortunately the clamp meter was non-functioning and completely unable to detect AC, DC, voltage or current and did not zero out DC current reading with no conductor placed in clamp.

    • Very accurate, and looks great!
This is a great meter. I use this meter everyday. We also use a Feildpeice meter alongside of it and this meter is just as accurate and less expensive. Also, it is not as long as the Feildpeice. This meter is definitely the best looking meter out there. I have had numerous compliments on the looks and functionality of this meter by people with years in the HVAC/R trade. I was a little hesitant about purchasing because this meter uses buttons instead of the dial to pick your function. But it is very easy to operate. If you want a meter with adjustable head and/or Bluetooth, then go with the DL429B. Same meter just with adjustable head and Bluetooth and is yellow and black. ... show more
