  • Really nice meter. Feature rich, well built.
Style: AC/DC Current Configuration: with Temperature Measurement
I've previously been able to get my hands on a pretty nice Fluke meter set so I'm blessed a bit in having that experience to compare this very nice meter against. This meter, like the Fluke that I am thinking of, is pretty well built and very feature rich. For an average home user, both would be a case of over-kill and both would be considered somewhat spendy. For someone that needs the functionality that is offered on either this FLIR meter or the Fluke competitors though, these meters are worth well more than their weight in gold or Amazon sale prices. This meter comes with a somewhat confusing amount of documentation with the documentation less hearty than expected at first glance. Because there are many different languages included in the documentation what seemed to be a lot of documentation actually works out to a few key pages. Pros would likely not need that much documentation anyway so the target buyers may not really find themselves too concerned in that area, but for someone that isn't as familiar with a higher end and more feature rich meter such as this, you might expect a bit more. My former co-worker of the more technical background saw this meter and was literally begging for an opportunity to use it. He raved over all of the options that this had that he wished he could get in a meter for himself. I'd be very surprised if he hasn't already got an order working to get one of his own because I had to take this one back from him after just a little bit of check it out for yourself time. We both liked the looks, the readily apparent build quality and the overall feel of this meter. It is really obvious how much engineering and end user concerns went into making this a really nice tool to have. It is pretty darned near 5 stars for my taste, and is a great alternative to Fluke meters if you are considering one of those. If you did purchase this meter, I'd expect you'd be very happy with your purchase. ... show more

Seems like a really well built product... The leads I got with it are a while other story.

  • And instead of a nice feature loaded clamp meter
Style: AC/DC Current Configuration: with Temperature Measurement
I cannot believe these reviews. You people must have a different meter or something. All the expectation I've had for this company, I looked forward to this meter for so long, and finally got it. And instead of a nice feature loaded clamp meter, I receive a Fisher price clamp meter. This is by far the most disappointing thing. I think Flir should stick to thermal cameras because if this is any taste. First of all the non contact voltage deal on this meter is an absolute joke. The accuracy of the meter might be pretty straight forward. But the "ruggedness" of this meter is a joke. It feels like if it took a 2 foot fall onto my carpet, it wouldn't be very forgiving. In short, this meter is a toy compared to a real clamp meter. Save your money guys, get something worth it. Flir tries to sell you the basis of stuff for ridiculous prices. 80x60 thermal cameras for 500$ and into the thousands for 320x resolution. Seek reveal will give you that same quality for much much less. Flir honestly has disappointed me. I was a pretty big fan lol. ... show more

  • Solid Alternative to Fluke Meters
Style: AC/DC Current Configuration: with Temperature Measurement
I have worked with several multimeters and they have proven to be helpful in my work. Most of the time I have used Fluke meters as they are generally regarded as the standard and the most reputable (and they were provided at the office); this one by Flir has proven to be as capable as a comparable Fluke at a more reasonable cost. If you are just learning to use a multimeter, this is not a good place to start as it is far and away more capable than you'll need if all you want to do is check batteries, verify current over a wire or check resistance through a path. There are simpler, much less expensive units that will serve the beginner or hobbyist just fine without costing a lot. That said, this particular meter does a lot of things and it is solidly built – you get what you pay for, and in this case it means a very capable meter that will last you for many years with proper care. Included in the package is the multimeter itself, two sets of probes (one for contact and one for temperature) a nice nylon case, two AA-batteries and a getting started guide. The guide is a little deceiving because it appears to be thick and the expectation is a thorough explanation of features but it has about a dozen languages, each with 5-6 pages of directions on how to use the meter. What is there is sufficient for getting off the ground and moving, though, and it provides enough information to understand the meter without requiring a trip to the internet or a licensed electrician to explain. The meter is capable of checking the majority of things you might want to look at when using such a meter. It has settings for checking AC and DC current (even down to microamps), voltage, resistance, and temperature. What makes this particular meter a little different than average is the proximity clamp that allows for detecting the presence of current without making contact. There are other meters that do this, but they tend to be more expensive than standard and not all of them work so well. This meter is solid and made well, a big step up from some of the others I have seen and used. It is not ruggedized, specifically, but it can handle some jostling and getting dropped from short distances. The case will provide some minor protection but it is not designed to prevent crush damage or keep it from getting damaged on big drops but rather it is more effective at keeping the meter clean. I have not really tapped the full potential of this meter. So far I have used it for testing batteries in computers and I have used it to determine if wired outlets are live, but in the hands of someone who works with electricity a lot and needs to measure voltages and currents in their line of work, this meter is an affordable alternative to Fluke. It is very well made, easy to use and will not break the bank. ... show more
