Description

The classic UCO Original Candle Lantern in a convenient value pack that also includes a 3-pack of UCO 9-hour candles and a soft, fleece bag for storage. The UCO Original Candle Lantern is equally suited to camping and outdoor activities as it is to providing lighting at home in emergency situations. The lantern is collapsible to minimize space and features an easy-sliding glass chimney that creates a windproof environment for the candle. The spring- powered candle tube pushes the candle up as it burns, keeping the flame burning at a constant height. A viewing slot allows the user to monitor the remaining time of the slow-burning candle. Includes carrying handle and hanging hook. Two Inch in diameter, the lantern stands 6.5 Inch when opened and collapses to 4.25 Inch when closed. Weight (with candle) is 6.4 ounces (181 g). Brass lantern 8.8 ounces (249 g). Made in the USA.

Small, lightweight, reasonably durable and it works great. Even their cheaper candles burn almost all night. The bees wax candles last a long time. Puts out plenty of light for camping purposes or just chilling outside with some ambience.

I bought one of these 30 years ago. I would use it in a pinch when camping if I didn’t want to use my white gas or propane fueled Coleman lantern. I found the old one the other day and noted that the glass chimney had broken. I didn’t find a replacement glass chimney to fit this on Amazon so I ordered this replacement lantern. This one is easier to light than my older model as the glass chimney can be slid down then slid back up after lighting. On older models you have to unscrew the candle holder then put it back after lighting. For transport the lantern collapses into the base protecting the glass chimney. ... show more

I discovered in June 2022 that the glass cylinder will not survive a 3-foot drop to a concrete floor. My mistake. So, I ordered a replacement. (I can probably still use the original lantern, but it won’t have the wind protection of the missing glass.) When the replacement arrived, there were no extra candles. The product description clearly says that 3 extra candles come with the lantern. I checked recent reviews and saw that several folks back in the spring reported getting the lantern without the extra candles. So, I returned the candle. No hassle except for having to drive to the UPS store. I asked for a replacement. Fortunately, the second one has the 3 extra candles. The new one is made in China as others have noted. Yes, there is a slight difference in the original made in the U.S. and the new one, mainly in the color. The new one was a little shinier. But it still worked as designed. I am reducing my rating from 5 stars to 4 because of the vendor’s failure, in more than one case, to provide all the components being advertised. ORIGINAL REVIEW - 2021 - I had bought the aluminum UCO candle lantern more than 4 years ago, but had not had a reason to use it. Then the weather forecast was for severe storms. So I got the lantern out. I had to read the instructions twice to fully understand how it was to be set up and used. But after reading, it made sense and worked well. The top part, that pulls up, was a little hard to do. I'm not sure the guides were as smooth as they could have been. But it did open without too much pressure. I noted the time I lit the candle. Nine hours later, it was time to go to bed, so I blew out the flame. I relit it the next morning, and it burned for another 2+ hours before being fully consumed. The spring inside pushed the candle up as the top was melted and burned. So, the candle lasted longer than the predicted time and it functioned as intended. I took the base apart to install a new candle after the lantern cooled. There was some wax around the top of and inside the tube that holds the candle. I scrapped most of it out, not sure how it might affect the performance of the next candle. It went back together with no problems. While the candle did provide a fair amount of light, it was not enough that I could easily read a book next to it. Of course, it is a small candle. It is designed as a camping candle, but I was using it inside a house. (UCO makes a 3-candle lantern that I'm sure would produce more light.) In spite of the lower light level, I gave it 5 stars for the length of burn time, lack of wax mess, and the fact that it worked as designed. By the way, on the base of mine, it said, "Made in USA." Apparently, the company switched to overseas production after I got mine. ... show more

This was a replacement for one that I had for years. It's a great safe lantern to use during power outages. I know power outages since I live in Florida. It burns for hours and is safe to use. Easy to carry around. I don't camp, but I would it would be great for camping.

Ok, I dropped my brand new lantern...I know, I'm a klutz, and I feared the glass had shattered. To my surprise, upon gently opening my lantern, it was in perfect condition (other than the top being slightly askew which clicked right back in place). I'm impressed, very impressed! The photos shown are the first burning and you can see its in perfect condition. I wanted to see if, upon burning the candle and heating up the glass, if any crack would become evident but I've burnt it now for 6 hours and none are apparent. I highly recommend this lantern and I love the amount of light it puts out. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Seems to be a nice little candle lantern. I like how it folds up so small. The candles are easy to change out. The 12 hour candles fit in these smaller units just fine. They come with slightly smaller diameter 9hour candles. The 12 hour candles seem like they fit better. ... show more
