I originally thought these had no mats, but I opened one up and the mats are behind the picture. Also, the "glass", which is plastic, is covered on by sides by a protective coating. The easiest way to remove the plastic coating is to use a piece of scotch tape at a corner and slowly pull (might take a couple tries). Then the glass will be crystal clear. I love these! Bought them to put pictures up on an empty wall in my living room. I also love how it has an option to either hang or just sit up on its own. I was worried that the clear part was plexi glass but it seems to look just as good if it were real glass.
