  • Sufficient
Size: Extendable Bunk Bed Color: Espresso
Since this bed only has/had two reviews... I'll try and help y'all out a bit. These are just a few points I would've liked to have known beforehand. First, the directions look really overwhelming at first glance. I chose not to do inventory and just get into it. I took my time and made sure each piece was placed exactly as shown in diagram before I screwed/attached other pieces. I never once made a mistake or had to redo a step. It took me about 4hrs to put together by myself, at a leisurely pace, with occasional help from two 10yro and a 9yro, alternatively. Second, the front page of the directions lists this bed as being a twin over twin. I about had a fit! However, after coming back to this page and looking very closely at the pamphlet of instructions, I realized the bottom bunk is interchangeable. It can be a twin, full, queen or king. Whatever you need it to be. With no changes in assembly. Though, I will say, if you're going for anything smaller than a king be mindful of how you place the slats on the two (twin-sized)sections of bottom bunk; so that they slide evenly, without touching, as you close the bed for downsizing. Also, my king mattress was about an inch and a half too long. (Touching on this in response to the other comment) I just lifted the backside to rest it on the frame abit; the backside that's up against the wall. Also, this could be my fault by not placing the slats just perfectly, therefore the frame not being exactly fluch when fully opened. It's not noticeable to the eye or the feel. I think my mattress measured at 74×78. So, the 78in was the bit faltering. Again, this wouldn't be an issue for anything smaller than a king. And my twin, for the top, fit in perfectly. So, no real issues with size/fit. I would not let the one inch difference deter me from purchasing this product. Lastly, the trundle. Whew. Idk if the design team gave out of steam or I did! But, it felt like they got to the end and just say eff it. The wood is that you screw the slats to us a different type wood than the rest of the bed. Different from the what I screwed the slats to for the top and bottom bunks. It's more like the slats themselves. Whereas the slats have predrilled holes the other wood does not. For the bunks, this wasn't a problem. The screws went right in. But, for the trundle, the screws just spin and spin and never penetrate the wood. I'm going to have to predrill my holes, with a power drill and drill bit, so that I can attach the slats. And, the same for attaching the wheels to the two outer slats. Which, by the way, are marked 'S.' However, 'S' looks exactly like the rest of the slats, unless I missed something, and my 'S's' were already in use. Just beware, when you begin to screw your slats down, keep an eye out for 'S;' if you so choose. So, my trundle is sitting upright in a corner waiting on me to motivate myself for assembly. I hope this review helps. It's just the few things that would've been helpful to me before I started to assemble this bed. All in all, I think it's definitely worth the 285$, if you can get past the 150$ shipping! But, really, for 500 bucks it's not bad. I just hope it holds up with me and my three kids on it!! ... show more

  • Be prepared - not as simple to assemble as you might hope
Size: Extendable Bunk Bed Color: Espresso
Arrived in two very heavy boxes, with a LOT of parts. Only minor problem with product was one piece did not have a part mark sticker, and it was critical to proper assembly. By comparing the part to each of the 19 assembly drawings, I figured out which it was. Couple notes 1) The finished bed is heavy, make sure you have help if you're going to move it. You'll need some working room. 2) It says a queen or king mattress will fit. A standard will not. We wanted to use the standard queen mattress from the the bed we are replacing and it is too long. We had to buy a RV mattress. 3) Be very careful tightening the Allen-wrench head bolts. If you use a power drill, you may very well split the wood if it draws up too tightly. 4) It says a 6" mattress will fit the trundle, but with the bed on carpet, there is only 5 1/2" of clearance, so we had to special order a 5" mattress. 5) Pretty much every assembly picture has a note about not putting screws too close to the edge of the board. Pay attention. You have to adjust the slats carefully to do so. 6) Most assembly can be a one man show, but at some point you will need help. 7) There were EXACTLY the required number of nuts, bolts and screws included, so do not drop anything. There are no spares. Over all, it appears to be sturdy and well made. The espresso finish is uniform. We really haven't tried it because the short queen and 5" twin mattresses have not arrived. ... show more
