I always thought milk frothers were those little handheld wands with the spinning springs you stick in a cup of milk. But then I saw this device that heats and froths milk, I wanted to give it a try. I love the basic design, the outside is all stainless steel, and the inside is some sort of nonstick coating. The buttons are easy to use, although I wish the instructions were a little clearer about what each setting is for. The clear plastic lid makes it easy to see the frothing action inside. Inside, there are min/max markings but they are difficult to read. The first time I used it, I filled it up to the max line with milk and selected the thicker froth setting. Within 30 seconds, milk was trickling out of the spout where the lid doesn’t get a strong seal. Apparently, there is another fill line that I couldn’t see that is for the heavier froth mode. I used this to make hot chocolate with the William Sonoma premium hot chocolate (which is a blend of chocolate shavings) two different ways. First I tried frothing the milk and then putting the mix in the milk and frothing it again, this gave the hot chocolate a nice foamy layer. Then I tried putting the milk and mix in at the same time and running it on the heavy froth mode, this just melted the chocolate and heated the milk, but did not create nearly as much foam. For added foam, I ran it through the settings again and it was a little better. I did notice that this does not get the milk super hot. I understand you don’t want to scorch the milk, but it didn’t get it hot enough for hot chocolate unless you ran it through a few times. The body of the frother stays pretty cool to the touch, except for near the top, which is above the max milk line. I’m not entirely sure where it heats up inside the pot, but the milk didn’t seem to be getting enough direct contact to the heat. I really do enjoy this frother. I bought a bunch of the William Sonoma premium hot chocolate to give as gifts this holidays, I am considering buying a few of these frothers to go with it, I think it would make a very nice gift. ... show more

This is a perfect little frother for taking on a road trip, or just using in a dorm or apt. It's little and doesn't take up much space, has a short little cord, and works like a champ. You can pick four options (cold frothing, a little bit frothed up and fully heated, a whole lot of frothed up and fully heated, or just fully heated). We tried out a bunch of different combinations on a recent trip and found that if we put in milk, frothed it up nice, then added cappuccino powder it made a wonderful, coffee shop worthy mug of yumminess. I recently got my hands on the Tumidy Milk Frother, and I must say, it has been a delightful experience so far. The frother is incredibly easy to use, and I was pleasantly surprised at how effortless it was to clean. With this device, I can now make barista-level hot and cold foam for my coffee drinks at home. The best part is that it also has a milk-heating function, which makes it an all-in-one appliance for all my milk-related needs. What sets it apart from other milk frothers I've used is how quiet it runs. I can barely hear it when it's in use, which is a significant plus for me. Additionally, it comes with an extra spring attachment, which is handy if the original one wears out or gets lost. While the frother is not immersible, cleaning it is a breeze. A quick rinse with water and a wipe with a cloth, and it's ready to go. I found that it produced enough foam for two coffee drinks at a time, which is more than enough for my needs. I love that there are different foam settings, including low and high foam, cold foam, or just heating milk. The maximum fill levels are clearly marked inside, and it only overflows if you overfill it past the maximum marks. I experimented with both regular milk and half-and-half, and I have to say, the results were spectacular. The frother produced a rich and velvety foam with both types of milk, making my coffee drinks taste like they came from a fancy coffee shop. The frother has a sleek and elegant look, with a stainless steel exterior and a non-stick inner lining. It's a handy little device. I can't find a single thing that isn't great about it. I got the Tumidy Milk Frother Electric for my house for Christmas and it's a win. It does what that other brand does but what I really like is: 1. the base is completely separate from the jug, which means I can get the jug totally clean without having to worry about electrical damage to either the frother or myself. I've used a "fancy brand" version of this before, years ago at an office job, and it was so stinky cause you couldn't wash it properly! Times have changed. 2. I like that this came with 2 frother pieces to insert, so you can swap them out or if one is dirty you can use the other. This has 4 options: cold milk / latte level foam / cappuccino level foam / hot milk. So far I've only tried it using cow's milk so I can't comment on how it would froth up alt mylks. Once the preferred foam level and temperature are achieved, the device turns off on its own, which is a nice safety feature. So far, I am happy.
