  • Sturdy compact umbrella
I ordered a two pack of theses TUMELLA Travel Umbrellas and they are superior to the typical WalMart type umbrellas. It usually only rains a couple times a year here so umbrellas are used while traveling and lost while traveling, left at the door of some establishment. Or they are stored in the car for use, and end up rotting/disintegrating from lack of use. Therefore the criteria for buying an umbrella is cheap as possible, necessary required function is they keep the rain off at least for a short period of time. So my experience using umbrellas is very limited and I have found them to be more trouble than they are worth. Surprisingly after ordering this pack of two TUMELLA travel umbrellas they arrived during a rain storm so I have actually used them! They are small enough to fit in a purse or travel bag and are so different from what I normally buy, sturdy and easy to use. After taking it out of the handy sleeve and unhooking the Velcro I pushed the button and it opened, no fuss no muss. Push the button again and it closes, hand on top and bottom push together and it is ready to be put away. The description says it has “Nine unbreakable fiberglass ribs made with new ultra-flex tech 2023” what this is I don’t know but they feel sturdy sort of springy even; I have had umbrella ribs bend just trying to open, these will not. I also noticed these umbrellas have vents, I am thinking the wind will go through instead of pulling the umbrella out of your hand or inverting. Since it did rain and I used it, I know it works, keeps the rain off and is small enough to be able to hold one handed easily. There was a breeze no wind so still waiting to see how it hold up with the vents. The price is also no more (less in some cases) than I have paid for inferior umbrellas. I would definitely recommend these umbrellas, a solid 5 star. ... show more

  • Good quality umbrellas with convenient strap to lock them closed.
I live in the Pacific Northwest, we get tons of rain, though oddly enough few people are ever seen using umbrellas! It's just easier to run to the door, or hurry into the store, that kinda thing...But, when you do want to use one, it's nice to have one nearby, like by your front door or inside your car. This 2-umbrella set is nice in that way, as you can keep them where you need them. The umbrellas themselves are nice, they look good, extend quickly, and have a kind of overlapping design on top which seems like a good design element. Overall, they are average umbrellas, nothing that will change your life, but are made well, and have one particular design element that stood out to me, and that is the strap you use to close them back up. It seems that on every umbrella I've ever had before, the little strap you have to close them back up is a pain to use, it needs to be pulled tight and you have to line up a little button and press it hard in order to close it. These umbrellas have great straps--They easily reach around the closed umbrellas and are locked down and secured by Velcro, making them very easy to close up and put away. ... show more

  • Solid
It's easy for me to review umbrellas because I live in a place nicknamed "Breezy Point." Right now the wind is 20-30mph with higher gusts. 2 umbrellas were included for the purchase price, so if you just want one, look for that listing. Likes: They're "high-tech" as far as umbrellas go, with push button (very rapid) open and close. (Once closed, you have to push the top back into the handle manually til it snaps closed. It may be a little difficult for some to do this with just your arms, but you can also simply place the top of the umbrella on the floor or a table or against a wall, etc. and then just push down, much easier to close this way.) They come with a nice velcro closing band and cover that's easy to put back on. The cover's also "high tech" wth a push button ball lanyard. I was impressed wth the detail of a hoop sewn into the top of the cover so you can just yank it off very quickly. There's a strap on the umbrella handle to prevent it flying away when in use. The canopy inside measurement was approx 36 inches diameter, it's the same diameter as my other regular (non-compact) umbrellas. The other collapsible I have is 31 inches diameter. So it's certainly big enough. (Their 42 inch measurement they mention in the listing you'll note is taken going over the outside of the canopy, so it's not inaccurate: it's just not as relevant) Umbrellas with vents tend not to flip as quickly, the vents here are well set up so that rain doesn't get in either. It is opaque enough to block the sun per their claim of providing 50spf protection. Concerns: My Breezy Point test worked until I held the umbrella out to catch the wind, it held until the first stronger gust and then it flipped. It did not break however, so I was able to push it back into place. In fairness, one would normally only hold an umbrella against such a strong wind and the umbrella held when doing that -- the gusts I would put at 40mph. In a city with a swirling wind, it might be more of a challenge to keep it from flipping. Overall though, this is a sturdy umbrella, and definitely sturdier than the other collapsible I have, and I would say it's equal if not stronger than the non-compact ones I have. That it flipped and was able to fix was a good sign. It's thicker and heavier than my other collapsible, but I guess that's because it's better-made. The length is the same, so it's not an unwieldy size. It might be a little heavy in luggage to bring "just in case", but if I was traveling somewhere I knew I'd need it, it'd be worth bringing. Dislikes: The spring technology is so strong -- the umbrella opens almost with the force of a switchblade -- that not only does one has to be very careful when opening, but also the long term durability of this component comes into question. I did open and close it 50 times and it still operates the same. In writing this review, I had to open it once more to measure and as I pulled it out of the sleeve it opened in my face, I had gripped the handle and inadvertently touched the button. I would prefer if the button required a tiny bit more force to open/close. This listing boasts "ultra flex 2023 tech" which sounds like gibberish -- like "Now with Super-Special Fairy Dust" or something like that. Their other, newer listings now boast "ultra flex 2024 tech" so should I feel ripped off? They are also offering an "UltraV7" umbrella for a higher rate that advertises Anti-flip, so some may wish to check that out. I think "UltraV7" needs to be explained though if it's truly different than this model. This listing mentions a video that will demonstrate it's sturdiness, but there is no video that I see. Overall: When I originally ordered this the price was much less than it is now, in fact half. (It may have been on sale.) During testing, I kept thinking this was a great bargain for the price. Since their single umbrella with the "new and superior ultra flex 2024 tech" is selling currently at less than half this amount on sale with a multitude of colors, be sure to check that listing to see which is the better option price-wise. Overall though, a solid umbrella. ... show more
