  • Great to achieve dry air!
I thought I had dry air for plasma cutting until I added this baby, what a difference it makes over the 1/4 cup sized dessicant dryers, the same size as the filter on the output in the picture. I recently noticed how much moisture was captured by the small unit when I was using air assist on CNC laser process, which uses 1/10 the air flow of plasma. So I deduced that the ratio of dessicant bead volume to air flow volume needed to be high, much higher than I had been using for plasma process. This quart sized unit solves the problem very well. I had already added a truck transmission cooler (https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R2DJXMDNZGGE9T) as a moisture condenser between the compressor and tank and that was a significant improvement also. This unit tops off the air system very well. My plasma consumables looked like new after 50 pierces and 1/2" holes on 0.25" steel plate. ... show more

  • Industrial Quality Desiccant Filter at a DIY Price
Over the past year I have done a lot of work to get the water out of my compressor air. With a media blaster, a plasma cutter, and with painting in my future, I started with a HF desiccant filter and a copper pipe cooling/condensing manifold. The HF unit has now been discarded. It seems the DIYer has to go with either a cheapy desiccant filter or go expensive with an industrial quality one at a price. I recently found this filter on Amazon. what I can tell you so far is that it is beefy. It's heavy, well constructed, and holds 3.5 cups of desiccant. When you look at the pictures I included you will notice a bracket. This was not included. I made it out of some sheet metal. Because of the weight of the filter I thought it would be helpful to add some support and take the weight off of the plumbing. The filter comes with 4 holes on top, but they are untapped. I tapped them out with a 12-24 NC tap and fastened with four 1/2 inch machine screws. Now the unit is fully supported. I have not yet used it other than pressure testing. My guess is it's going to be great. ... show more

  • Best bang for buck
I was using Harbor freight dessicant dryers and the air was so wet that it would turn the dryers bright pink after 2 hours of plasma cutting non-stop during a production run. I bought one of these dryers for each machine and made it the 2nd of 3 dryers inline before air reaches the plasma cutter. I have the hf dessicant on the compressor and the other on the back of the plasma cutter and then this big guy mounted on my cart with a small hose lead to attach to the hf dessicant filter. so in my mind the hf dessicant filter will notify me when its time to empty the big one on the cart. made a custom mount out of like a foot of angle steel from Depot because these things are 6 pounds without silica gel in them. also the 4 holes on top are best for mounting holes. Just tap the holes for M6 x 1.00 pitch and use M6x1.00 bolts that are short! like half inch short! because the holes dont tap in too far! this dryer is amazing and solved all our issues for a big production plasma cutting job. ... show more

  • Fantastic dryer, built like a tank
I use this with my plasma CNC table and have it between a refrigerated dryer and the plasma cutter. This captures 100% of the moisture that makes it past the refrigerated dryer on really humid days. It's built extremely well and holds a large amount of desiccant. It would be nice to have a threaded mounting location like others have said but with the material is so thick around the threaded inlet and outlet that I have no issues hanging it off a pipe ... show more

  • A must for plasma cutting system
This thing holds a lot of silica beads. They must for plasma cutting system

  • Mounting holes are not threaded
I tapped the drilled holes so that the unit could use regular screws to mount and dismount it. The factory should have tapped the holes AND provided suitable screws/bolts. The head is aluminum and aluminum can't take much abuse before it cracks or strips.

  • Worth the investment
I live in Texas, and the air is so humid that I could not get dry air with any store bought dryers. I bought this and poof, dry air from my hose. Love it. Worth the investment if you use sprayers, too!
