  • THE Best Juicer on the Market - BAR NONE!!!
Color: White
We purchased the GSE 5000 juicer June 4, 2013. I spent MANY hours watching videos (DO check out YouTube, you will learn HOW to Use and Clean all the juicers quickly and easily!!!), and comparing ALL the juicer models out there. The Green Star juicers are the brand you want when you are SERIOUS about the QUALITY of your juice. Period. "Fast" juicers basically obliterate the cellular structure of the fruits and vegetables. While this will give you juice quickly, it also destroys micronutrients through the brute force of the extraction, as well as the additional oxidation of the juice by the air introduced through the high speed blades. "Masticating" juicers, particularly the currently popular "Vert" models, ARE better, but are still more gimmick than function. The reviews for these praise the better extraction, but MANY problems appear to occur due to the cheap construction of the devices, particularly the screen, which seems subject to breakage. These models have a LOT of plastic parts that are INTEGRAL to the machine, rather than just covers... Now, the Green Star Elite GSE 5000 does have plastic, but the mechanical plastics are STURDY, DURABLE, and RIGID. The only thinner plastic part would be the unit housing cover. This, with reasonable care, should not crack, break, or otherwise fall apart easily. Since it IS an expensive piece of equipment, DO treat the parts with care, regardless how well constructed they are... If you find this juicer "difficult" to clean or assemble, you simply should not be using any appliance more complicated than a spoon. Seriously. "DIFFICULT" IT IS NOT!!! There are only SEVEN (7) parts to take off or put on. VERY EASY. Almost Idiot Proof. The ONLY difficult parts to assembling it are: 1) making sure the augers are correctly aligned, with the "one dot" gear tooth between the "two dot" gear teeth of the other auger, and 2) Slightly rotating the twin augers when pushing them into the juicer body. They have to turn ever so slightly to align, but again, it is NOT difficult. Just gently "wiggle" them as you continue to gently push, and they will go in. Do yourself and your juicer a favor, and cut your carrots into chunks no longer than about an inch. They will NEVER jam if you do. This goes for almost any vegetable. While the Green Star IS powerful, you purchased it to JUICE, NOT to cut the vegetables up and juice. Also, if you take the extra time to cut the veggies before juicing, you will find that you will have to use FAR less pressure to push them into the juicer. (FWIW, I ALWAYS use the plastic, NOT the wooden pusher - It is DESIGNED not to reach all the way down to the gears, so you will NOT grind any plastic off - ignore that warning in the videos!!!) Get a small bowl, and when the bowl is full, you have enough for a glass of juice. If you are new to juicing: 1) Add ice cubes to your juice. The colder the better when you start, TRUST. 2) Add a bit of water to dilute it if the taste is too strong - It can take a bit of getting used to. 3) Keep a can of frozen Juice Concentrate in the freezer, and add a small spoon to juices that are too "green" to help make them a bit more palatable. Carrots are your juicer's best friend. Put a piece or two after every soft veggie to help push the pulp through. NEVER WAIT TO WIPE YOUR JUICER!!! Every complaint about the Green Star screens is due to people NOT cleaning them promptly (within 30-60 minutes). If you rinse and wipe your juicer FAITHFULLY and QUICKLY, you will never have a screen problem. The Green Star 5000 comes with two brushes, and I have also found that a new toothbrush can do the job of them both pretty well. The screen, which is the hardest part of the juicer to clean, collects fiber on the end where the pulp comes out. This is one reason cutting your produce into small chunks is strongly suggested. Start by brushing the inside of the screen to loosen fibers. Then brush the outside of the screen to remove the loosened plant fiber. It shouldn't take more than a minute or two, tops. For ANYONE who complains about the amount of time to use or clean this juicer, stop and consider the time and energy you would use to prepare and clean up after a regular meal. This juicer extracts MORE juice than any other model except the weird, cumbersome, and expensive Norwalk. And that puppy makes prepping your fruits and veggies into a religious ceremony... And clean up for the Green Star is no more difficult than washing your blender or food processor. Easier in some ways, no sharp blades to look out for. This juicer is an investment, and will change your life in regards to how you look at juicing. Grasses, leaves, even weeds are now part of our diet (Lamb's Quarters are so common, yet SO nutritious - my husband shakes his head, but knows to leave them alone when he sees them, so I can juice them!). The additional cost will make up for itself in the LESS WASTE of juice from your produce, and the WIDER VARIETY of plants that you can put into this machine. With a modicum of care, and a smattering of common sense, you should have NO problems, and YEARS of enjoyment with your Green Star. I know I am having a blast!!! ~M ... show more

  • regret the purchase
Color: White
by choice was GSE 5000 or Omega Vert 330 HD. i went with GSE 5000 because it produces higher quality juice and more of it ( for the same amount of produce ) than does the VERT. the good: it is built extremely well and makes excellent juice very efficiently - that part i am very happy with. the bad: it is too difficult to use. i have no problem with it but my parents do. i knew this would be the case and in retrospect i should have gotten the VERT. i just had a fight with my parents over them trying to break the juicer again after i had explained to them a hundred times not to do it that way. i realize this is not the juicer's fault - its the fault of my parents - but the fact of the matter is i would rather have Omega Vert at this point even if it doesn't juice as well. so four stars overall. five stars for build quality and accessories, five stars for performance, two stars for ease of use. so my advice is this: if you know your left hand from your right - by all means, GSE 5000 is a great machine - as long as you operate it yourself. basically anybody not intelligent enough to come to the conclusion on their own that they need to be drinking fresh juice from vegetables and greens is also not going to be intelligent enough to use this machine. unfortunately all the machines that match the juice quality and efficiency of this machine are just as difficult or more difficult to use. if you want an easier to use machine you will have to sacrifice juice yield and quality, that said you may want to do that. get the GSE 5000 only if you understand the peculiarities of this machine and exactly what makes it special - otherwise if you don't know much about juicers get Omega Vert 300 HD as it is the safe bet. ... show more

  • Excellent juice! Dry pulp
Color: Black
One of the reasons I wanted a juicer was all the apples I come across as a landscaper. Juicing was a way to use more apples in less time. Before I ended up purchasing this juicer, I thought I was going to get an Omega juicer because I knew someone that had one and heard they were good. I read plenty of reviews off amazon and other sites relating to different juicers. I watched youtube videos as well. This was more than I thought I was going to spend, but I'm glad I did. I bought it in September of 2016 and it's still going strong today. On the top of the list of produce to juice was apples. I will say it makes the best apple cider I’ve ever had. I just vote the apples, slice them up, and juice them pretty quickly. There is some foam, but you can drink it, or screen it out. I’ve only bought apple juice a couple times since I bought this. Store bought isn’t good anymore. It will generally get 6 to 8 ounces of juice per apple depending how large. I used it 2 or 3 times a week for a while and then was on and off with using it. Now I'm back. I have used it for many different kinds of veggies, greens, and fruits and it works well with all. For example, for the past few weeks, 2 to 3 times a week, I'll juice 5 to 10 pounds of carrots at a time so I can have 2 glasses of juice a day until next time to juice. After washing the carrots, cutting to fit, juicing, and final cleanup, it usually takes anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour to juice 8 to 10 pounds. It yields between 60 to 70 ounces of nice, smooth, clean and fresh tasting juice with minimal grit. It's totally worth the time. I used to buy carrot juice, but not anymore. Store bought is pasturized and old, so it's not as good or as healthy. It's also more cost effective to juice your own compared to a juice bar. I also purchased the soft fruit knob for oranges or whatever other soft fruit. The other day I juiced just 2 organic oranges with the more pulp screen and my wife said it's the Best Orange Juice she's ever had. The manufacturer claims that the gears are magnetized to enhance the quality of the juice and I believe they are. Juice will last 3 to 4 days in the fridge no problem. I will say though when I juiced organic Meyer's lemons to make lemonade, it was awesome, but the flavor changed within 2 days and wasn't as good anymore. Greens and wheat grass were no problem mixed with other veggies either. Even garlic is good to add into the mix. I did try it to make but butter, but it was really gritty and dry. Maybe I didn’t use the right nuts or recipe? Now, to address the cleaning; If you clean it right away, it's not too difficult and comes with good utensils for that, except you may also want a round scrub brush. About the stains that were mentioned, running a lemon through after your done helps and water helps to loosen debris, but there may be remaining color stain. In my opinion of that is "oh well". Just clean it as best you can and keep making awesome juice. It's only stain. About that issue 'that one reviewer' mentioned with the stainless gears not being stainless and flaking... those gears in the picture aren't flaking, they're covered in buildup, which may happen, but it's more like stain and it doesn't get in the way of performance. They are stainless, because if they weren't rust might develop before you could shake a stick at it. The bottom line, if I had it to do over again, I would still buy it. ... show more
