  • Make sure you get the right cables
Size: KVM Switch
I had trouble with this KVM blacking out every few seconds and vertical line artifacts for awhile and even sent it in via RMA. ******Make sure to use specifically DisplayPort 1.4 this should fix all video issues.****** Also make sure you get 2 of the usb B male to usb A cables for all usb peripherals. If you want to use the keyboard press activated peripheral/monitor switching then make sure you have a generic keyboard (nothing with programmable macros or software) or get a mini 6 key keyboard. It took me about a month to figure out it's quirks for the price it's pretty good, but it has a lot of quirks. ... show more

  • Exactly what I needed
Size: KVM Switch
A new job provided me with a laptop and an ultrawide monitor for remote work. I already had a desktop gaming PC and an ultrawide with G-Sync and 120hz. I knew right away I'd need to find a way to be able to use both monitors and my accessories while quickly and conveniently switching between the two computers. I had never used a KVM before, and after some initial research I was a bit confused as to which one I'd need to be able to get the most out of the monitors. This one seemed to check all the boxes, but I'll admit it was a bit of a gamble as I was unsure it would actually work for my needs. Turns out it did! My setup is as follows: Alienware AW3420DW (120hz, G-Sync, 3440x1440), Dell P3421W (60hz, 3440x1440), Dell XPS 9570, and a custom-built gaming PC w/ an RTX 2080TI. All connected to this KVM with DisplayPort 1.4 cables. For the desktop, the DP cables go directly from the KVM to the 2080TI. For the laptop, the DP cables go from the KVM to a WAVLINK Thunderbolt 3 to Dual Displayport Adapter. I have a powered USB hub connected to the KVM with my keyboard, wireless mouse receiver, a microphone, and a webcam to share between the two computers. Everything works great together -- on my gaming PC I still have perfect G-Sync and 120hz for the Alienware monitor. Switching between the two computer works seamlessly. Maybe a little finicky every once in a while -- from time to time when I wake up my gaming PC from sleep, the keyboard does not turn on. Possibly something with my computer, as it doesn't seem to do it the laptop. Also, sometimes windows I had opened will reset positions when I switch from one to the other. However, these gripes are minor and/or infrequent enough that it does not detract at all from the amazing amount of convenience this setup provides. I do kind of wish it came with a remote, but not that big of a deal to me. Two notes: 1) USE DISPLAYPORT 1.4 CABLES!! Just do it. Whatever your setup is or whether you think you need them or not, just save yourself some trouble and start out with 1.4s. I started out using DP1.2 cables for everything but the Alienware monitor to the gaming PC. It was just constant issues. Monitors randomly blacking out and then coming back on, one of the monitors had weird distortion when using the laptop, etc. All of that was fixed by switching over to all DP1.4 cables. If you have DP1.2 cables on hand, I guess give them a try, but if you have any issues or are buying cables along with the KVM I'd highly recommend spending the extra $1 or whatever on DP 1.4s. 2) You will need two USB 2.0 B to A cables -- basically printer cables. Those go from the KVM to the computers to allow the keyboard/mouse/etc to switch between the two. I didn't realize it didn't come with them and did not have any on hand when first setting things up. All in all, I really like this KVM, and it does exactly what I needed it to do -- a no compromise way to switch between my personal computer and my work computer on the fly. ... show more

  • Does exactly what it says it will do; don't mind the haters, mine works great!
Size: KVM Switch
Having used this device for ~1h, I'm very happy with the product. Overview: Given the work-from-home requirements continue to be extended, I needed some way to use my somewhat limited desk area with a second monitor. Between a gaming PC and the MacBook Pro for work, I've been able to successfully switch between the two hosts with relative ease. This device works as intended (I didn't test the audio feature, but all else is working great)! The drawbacks: First: I'm glad I read the details about this, it doesn't come with anything but a power cable; make sure you get your additional DP cables and the USB A=>B Cables. Second: If it's placed near the back edge of the desk, while it does have rubber feet that help it to not slide, it is not heavy enough to compensate for the weight of the wiring you'll be attaching, it wants to tip backwards. Third (nit-pick): After cycling the KVM between 1 & 2 quickly, it lost proper resolution reporting for one of my monitors (both are 3840x2160) and reported it to the OS as a 2560x1440. This was quickly resolved by re-seating the DP cable from the back of the afflicted monitor. Conclusion: In consideration between the StarTech and this item, I thought it prudent to discern whether an additional $80 was necessary. While the presentation of the StarTech is slightly nicer, this TRENDnet device seems to be built very well. Perhaps the more expensive units with EDID emulation would solve some of the slight frustrations I had, but I'd say that I'm pleased at having achieved this result for ~$200. Both monitors are supported on both computers at 4K 60Hz via the display port (MBP is fed by two individual USB-C=>DP Cables) and, at this point, I'm merely waiting on the dual monitor mount so that I can free up the remainder of my desk space. That said, this device has earned a permanent location in my office. Addressing some negative reviews that I can speak to: I've got a Razer BlackWidow Elite (both USB from this device are plugged into the KVM) and a Mamba Elite (plugged into the Keyboard USB Port). Both work flawlessly. While Both of my monitors are 4k Samsungs, one is brand new, and the other is older (LU28R55 && U28E590 respectively). As mentioned above, they both function well at 4k 60Hz without issue. They're driven by my GTX1070 on my gaming PC and the MBP has an ATI 570 or something of the like (I don't keep track, it's just a work PC). Regarding cabling, I didn't buy anything super special to get this running. Just went to NewEgg, found the least expensive but still reputable cables I could, and then hit 'buy'. The DP cables are StarTech, the USB3=>DP cables are no-name, and the USB A=>B cables are no-name; it works flawlessly. Finally, the last negative review I can address is people's use of DP=> HDMI Cables. While I did not try this, every one of the cables I looked at stated very plainly (if not somewhat hidden) that those types of cables are not bi-directional, hence you can't go from HDMI=>DP; only from DP => HDMI (which will obv not work with this, as it needs DP on the far end). That's what got me thinking about dual USB-C=>DP cables; again, those are working flawlessly. TL;DR: Don't be a dunce, read the documentation, plan properly, get the requisite cabling, and save yourself $100 with this KVM; I'm super happy that it's working as well as it is, and I'm sure you will be too! ... show more

  • Things to know before you buy this KVM Switch
Size: KVM Switch
There are a few key important things you should know before you purchase this KVM switch, and especially so if you’re trying to connect your laptop. -First, you need to buy display port cables or display port to HDMI. The KVM switch is display port only. -Second, if you PC or laptop only has an HDMI port, you need to have an active HDMI to display port adapter. Without this you may not get video. -Required Cabling: You need 2 x TK-CP06 TRENDnet Cable Kits. (Sold Separately) They are DisplayPort, USB, and Audio KVM Cables and you’ll need two high quality Display Port Cables. If you’re just aware of these things, you’ll be in good shape and I’ll think you’ll find this switch works well. KVM can often be finicky, but so far this has worked well for me. ... show more
