  • Only had this for a short time but so far this is working great.
Ok, so I am a geek. I am running OpnSense on a Xeon E3-1226 v3 with 16GB of RAM connected to my network with a Chelsio N320e. If you understand what all that means you know it's WAY overkill for home use and I LOVE it. So with that out of the way so far this AP has been great. Pulled it out of the box and hooked it to a TP-Link POE switch and connected to power and the network, took a second to look up the IP address and after connecting it was up and running without issue. I have dealt with consumer grade products that took nearly 30 minutes to get setup and working correctly because they want to force the use of an app and even then don't want to go into AP mode. This was a pleasure to configure as it took me longer to hook up some cables and find the IP address than it took to actually put in the settings. If you have done some networking for a while and don't need your hand held this will be great for you. Doing speed tests to my 10G fiber connected server from my phone while connected to this AP is getting me around 800 Mbps to my Galaxy S21. From my 10G connected desktop I get 5000 Mbps to the same server FYI. This is with 21 connected clients (mostly ESPhome configured ESP8266's) and a connection rate of 866Mbps which is great IMHO. I have a TP-Link OC200 Hardware controller on it's way as well and need to expand to a set of 3 EAP650's that will all get their power from a TP-Link TL-SG1005P switch and will update with more information when that is completed but so far in standalone mode things are working great. My other current AP is a Netgear R8000 I have had for a while and the handover from the R8000 to the EAP650 is seamless as well so I foresee no issues when 3 EAP650's are up and running. I also as of yet have not done anything with multiple SSID's or vLan's but that will be in the works soon as well but has been put off until I get all of the hardware needed to make it work correctly. I will be sure to update this review and more information I am however VERY happy with things after the setup being a breeze. ... show more

  • Perfect for increasing WIFI coverage in my garage
This access point works perfectly with the recommended TP-Link PoE Injector. I wisely decided to run an ethernet cable from my switch / patch panel location to my garage when my house was built. After running into periodic weak WIFI signal issues with the Ring camera and doorbell located inside/outside my garage. as well as my exterior mounted Rainbird irrigation control panel, I decided to do something. All the WIFI signal issues were resolved with the addition of a TP-Link EAP650. It was very easy to configure and the total setup time was less than 5 minutes. I mounted the AP on the wall, just below the ethernet connection (wall plate) in my garage , and plugged it in using an 3 inch ethernet pigtail jumper cable. The only unusual aspect of this AP is that it operates at a reasonably warm temperature. What I mean is that this AP is quite warm to the touch and this occurred as soon as it was connected. I have checked it multiple times over the past week and the elevated temperature is constant. I don't see this as a problem, but I was surprised that this AP operates at a temperature much higher than a typical router. ... show more

  • Perfect AP and right size
** Added my current wifi speeds based on an older wifi5 laptop. Needless to say I am more than impressed with this speed consistency and now running around 40-50 wifi devices over multiple created vlan networks.** I picked up two of these for building my new home network. 1800sq ft home and matched up well working great. Did I need 2 probably not but this allows for enhanced coverage and I have one on each end of the home with no loss. Using the OC200 I have a couple different wifi networks running to separate devices on my network and vlans are going well also. The size is right without getting the monster 670 and speeds are great with plenty of overhead and can handle over 100+ devices connected without question. I am building up my new network so it is mixed hardwired/wireless with about 30 wifi devices connected and no issues at all right now. One AP is running as a wireless mesh to the main ATM until I can get time to hardwire but no problems at all. ... show more

  • The basics are there, but the refinements are sorely missing
Well...it's an access point, but beyond that, not so good. For clarity, this is an EAP650 with firmware "1.0.6 Build 20220921 Rel. 73404(5553)". Right off the bat, the status page says it's hardware version 1.0, wile the label says 1.26. Ummm....this is especially disturbing because of your warning on your firmware download page to make sure everything matches. This is 2023. There is no IPv6 support. Granted, it's the usual bridge between the radios and Ethernet, so your connecting devices will have IPv6 connectivity if the Ethernet does. But you can't assign an address (only IPv4), you can't connect with a Web browser or SSH, nothing except not blocking it at layer 2. The Web interface nags you unnecessarily. "The password field is required". Duh. Hold your horses. Just because my pointer left the browser or focus went to another field doesn't mean anything. Don't nag me about missing or incorrect things until I try to click on "OK", "save", or whatever. HTTPS is supported, but with no way to load a certificate or even generate a CSR and accept the signed result. So you have handwave browser warnings about bad certs. All CSS assumes a white background. It's not that difficult to specify it; you specified the text colors, didn't you? How difficult can it be to add one more CSS attribute? Why is some of the text on the page not able to be highlighted for copying? I wanted to add another VLAN SSID on the Wireless Settings page, so I clicked on add. All I wanted to do is copy/paste the existing SSID and add a suffix. Except I can't do that because of...I don't exactly know, but I'm guessing the CSS of the existing SSID line? I can't really contemplate why this decision was made. So, in summary, since I'm not going to have to "touch" this too often (set and mostly forget), I'm not returning it. But I'm this > < close to doing that. ... show more

  • Works Perfect.
As title says, its slim in size, good signal range, running wireless IP cameras, never drops the signal. Good buy.
