  • Great Quality Boot That Lasts Over the Years
First purchased this boot (shown on the right) was purchased on January 30, 2017. Initially this boot was just my daily footwear to work in an office setting. The only break-in period I experienced was the areas on the side of my foot where my foot had to mold into the sole of the boot, but nothing painful. Sizing seems a little off. I normally wear size 11 or 11.5/12 in cowboy boots but size 10.5 regular fits like a glove for these so keep that in mind. Also if you have a wider foot like I do normal size is perfect. The leather is soft and forms to your feet. These daily casual boots turned into my wear for all occasion. These boots have been on multiple fishing trips, multiple hiking trails and mountain trips. They've been in the rain and snow and held up very well. You can see how they've darkened; they did this almost immediately when I conditioned them with Obenauf's heavy duty leather preservation so be aware if you want to keep the initial color of the boot what you use to condition/protect the leather with. The overall waterproofing has been great. The boot has an almost Merrell type feeling where the waterproofing materials help make the boot feel soft and comfortable on first wear. The toes held up well but being in different weather conditions you can see how over the years it has lost it's shape and the cracking from heavy movements and weather in my opinion are fine. I probably could have done a better job in protection and conditioning but that's on me. The heels held up very well and on one boot only the stiffness of the leather has subsided but stil gives OK support. The insides as well have held up and you can see the typical heel wear where putting the boot on every day for basically 4 years has taken it's toll. There is stil some tread left in areas but I will say the terrain where I've gone has been either soft/sand/muddy/snow and only few camping trips have been rocky trails constantly. The lowers have started to separate on the heels but since this boot doesn't have a welt stitched to the upper this was bound to happen but nothing I think some sort of shoe glue couldn't fix at home on a budget. Overall thought's? Well you can see in the pictures I have purchased my replacements and although I couldn't have spent more and gone for Redwings/Thorogoods/etc. this re-purchase was a no brainer for me. Great boot at a great price. I hope my second pair will fair as well as my first. Will Hope to update later. ... show more

  • Great First Impressions
This is a preliminary review as I just received these a week ago. I will try and update in several months. I normally wear a 9E in dress shoes (wearing thin dress socks). Tried both an 8.5M and an 8.5W and the wider boot fit perfectly wearing regular cotton athletic socks. These boots seem to run one-half size big but with standard width. These are very comfortable boots without any need for break-in. The footbed is soft, especially compared with stiff dress boots and cheap shoes. I purchased these to wear in the winter (in Minnesota) for everyday use. Not as a heavy-duty snow boot, but for running errands, wearing casually, but definitely exposed to the elements. So far, they have been excellent. My feet are very warm in cold weather despite the lack of insulation. I haven't stepped in any large puddles but no issues with my feet getting wet. Traction in the ice and snow is excellent. We had a snowfall that melt and froze, and these boots worked as well as anything on icy driveways. They feel very solid and sturdy in the snow as well. No construction issues out of the box. The toes and heels are heavily burnished, which was a surprise. They appear to be dark brown while the rest of the boot is a lighter brown. The leather is soft to the touch; not quite as rough as suede, more like the feel of a pencil eraser. They do "scuff" easily, but that is to be expected with this type of leather. A little conditioner or oil on occasion should make them look pretty much new again. The rubber soles do seem to add at least half an inch in height (Costanza style), but the rubber is light weight and they are not heavy at all. So far, these are very good boots and I already have my eye out for a dressier pair to wear to work on snowy days. ... show more

  • Awesome, near perfect boot, just please ditch the logo on the heel
This is actually a 4 1/2 rating. Bought these back in April. Thanks to previous reviewers here and on other sites I knew I needed a smaller pair. I wear a 9.5 in a New Balance 624 sneaker, I wear a 9 D in Johnston and Murphy dress shoe and a 9.5 B in a Johnston and Murphy dress shoe (I don't think they come in B width any more). The perfect fit for me in this boot is an 8.5. So generally you should try this shoe in a size that is one full size lower than what you are wearing. As for the shoe - it looks good and I don't mind the scratches. For me it is a work boot and I don't mind if it looks that way. But it is stylish enough that I can wear it the winter around town. They broke in nicely. Only two small items prevent this from being a 5 star. 1. on a real hot, humid day the dye on the upper padded portion rubbed off on my white socks. No big deal. 2. I wish for the last two or three lace holes to be whatever you call those things that allow you to wrap the shoelace around as opposed to going through the hole. Again, small item. 3. perhaps the thing I really wish for is that the logo did not appear on the outside heel. It is very hard to see, and over time it will be scuffed up. But still, why do I have to advertise? Of these three shortfalls, it is this one which knocked it off the 5 star pedestal. The shoe would look better without the logo. Overall, this is a great boot - combination of rugged durability, comfort and good looks. It is a perfect combination and I hope I will be wearing these for many, many years to come. ... show more
