Description

I was happy in my small town. In my life as a single, thirty-two year old woman. I had a good job, wonderful friends, my independence. I also hadn't got laid in three years. Hadn't been on a date in two. Had stopped counting calories and wearing makeup... a while ago. Then Brett Jacobs waltzed in. Caressed my thigh, dug rough fingers into my hair, lowered his soft mouth to my skin, took sexual control of my mind and stirred it all around with what he packed in his pants. He flipped my quiet life upside down and crawled into a place in my heart I thought was dead. The issue is his secret. The issue is her. The issue is that I don't even know she exists, and he thinks she's dead. The issue is that shit is about to hit the fan and I can't hold on to him tight enough. Read more

Riley Johnson is a well-behaved small-town girl from Florida who gave in to a one-night-stand during her friend's bachelorette party in Jamaica. But the man she let into her bed that night - Brett Jacobs - is mesmerized by her, and determined to make this more than a cheap one-night-stand. Riley's inital doubts about his motives fade with every day and night they spend together and with every weekend trip they make. But as their relationship progresses, Brett's strange behaviour leads Riley to become more and more suspicious. Is Brett really who he pretends to be? Where does he get all his money from? Is he involved in the drug business, or even worse than that? What I loved about this book: Great suspense up until the end Quite a dark read with a grim tone which makes it an unusually refreshing read What I felt needed improvement: Nothing, if not the similarities with a book with a similar book called Tears Of Tess Please note that this book contains quite a few graphic descriptions that might displease the faint-hearted. Tight is not a summer feel-good read but a dark, angsty and suspenseful romance. "My hardest day was not the first time I was raped. Or when I spent unknown hours handcuffed in my own defecation. Or when I was whipped. My hardest day was that one, when I lost my teeth. For of them, molars taken out with a tool that looked like expensive pliers." Alessandra Torre has a gift: the gift of writing extremely unconventional stories that will keep the readers on their toes from beginning to end. At the back of the book, Alessandra tells us that when she started this book, she was trying to write a simple book, without her usual psycho twists in it. But her genius mind got the better of it. The writing was just perfect: the perfect blend of description and storytelling that will make you feel like you're really living the story. We get to experience everything first-hand through a 1st person POV alternating between Riley, Brett and Kitten. And Kitten's POV is what's really going to bring a twist into the story because her identity is not revealed until the end and leaves the reader speculating about her (and her nameless captor!) all along. There is always that doubt about who Brett really is, and if he's only playing Riley. Because on some accounts, he really acts mysteriously, yet the few POV scenes we get from him don't really add up with that. And what is it about Kitten? All of that turned Tight into a total pageturner. On the one hand, Tight felt very similar to Tears of Tess (because it deals with the same subjects, and holds the same dark undertone), but on the other it was just the theme that held similarities and not the actual plot. "One helpful site provided the Top 10 Places Where Drug-Related Crime is Most Likely to Occur. We, in the last six months of "romantic" getaways, had hit seven spots." And really, if a book has a great storyline, a plot that keeps me on my toes, and characters that raise the bar (even though Riley's pseudo-naive haven't-been-plowed-in-years country-girl attitude was a bit OTT), the it can only be good. But Tight only got better by delivering a good deal of steamy scenes, which were highly appreciated! I had no idea what Tight would be about when I started reading it. Alessandra Torre is just on auto-buy for me, and you will have guessed from my review, it's adventure and a total unexpected mindfork waiting to happen as soon you immerse yourself into one of her books. If you're not afraid of reading something out of the ordinary, something twisted and gut-wrenchingly raw - well then Alessandra Torre is the best thing that could happen to you. ... show more

  • Totally did not see that coming!! Brilliant!
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book. I had read the short story Still, in the Bend Anthology. Alessandra warned us that she was rewriting that story, and that this would be a departure from her usual writing style. If you read Still, the story ended and we weren't given any clues which way the story would have continued had it been a full length book. Well, let me tell you, this story was in NO WAY at all the way I would have expected the story to go! This book is actually a story within a story. We meet Riley and Brett, who connect while on a weekend trip to the Bahamas and begin a long distance relationship, with Brett whisking Riley away to various resort locations for the weekend. She's a confident, 32 year old woman living in a small country town in Florida, while Brett appears to be a wealthy yacht salesman. The story is told mainly from Riley's point of view, so we only get bits and pieces of Brett's background, just what we learn from what little bits he tells Riley. Occasionally there is a short chapter told from Brett's POV, and we get a little more of his story, but written in such a way that they almost make you more confused about what is going on than if we didn't have those chapters. The second story, or story within the story involves a woman named Kitten. We learn from her that this is not her real name, but what her captor calls her. This is the dark part of the story, the part that gives us clues that she's being held by someone who loves to play psychological mind games with her, as well as "train" her to become a sex slave. The pieces we get from Kitten show us how strong she is, how she is bound and determined to not let this captor break her, or make her lose her will. How Alessandra lays this storyline out has you rooting for Kitten and wanting to reach into the book and kill this sick captor yourself! We are led through the courtship between Brett and Riley, seeing how good they are together, how hot and passionate their sex life is, but we begin to feel like things with Brett are not exactly as he portrays them. Riley is the daughter of the chief of police so her upbringing has her starting to question things with Brett, becoming suspicious of who he really is and what his intentions are. This is the part in the book where tensions mount and my anxiety level rose quickly, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This story is suspenseful, a little dark but not too dark, passionate, sexy, intriguing, hopeful, full of twists and turns, emotional and will leave your head spinning until the very end. There's no way to do this book justice except to just tell everyone to read it for themselves, and prepare for the unexpected! ... show more
