Features

  • Most popular protection filter
  • Provides basic reduction of ultraviolet light
  • Helps eliminate bluish cast in images

Description

Tiffen UV Protection filter Film, as well as video, often exhibits a greater sensitivity to what is to us invisible, ultraviolet light. This is most often outdoors, especially at high altitudes, where the UV absorbing atmosphere is thinner; and over long distances, such as marine scenes. It can show up as a bluish color cast with color film, or it can cause a low contrast haze that diminishes details, especially when viewing far away objects, in either color or black and white. Ultraviolet filters absorb UV light generally without affecting light in the visible region. Using a Tiffen UV Protector on your Digital HD DSLR While the UV Protection filter has served its purpose in the film era for many years it will still continue to be one of the most popular choices in accessories today. Digital cameras have blocks, auto correction and digital filters that combat the bluish color cast therefore making the UV Protection filter a simple protector for your lens to combat dirt, finger prints & that fateful knock or drop. Who are Tiffen? • ALWAYS worth the investment
Any time I grab a new lens, I get a UV filter to help protect the front element. It's cheap insurance and these tiffen filters have always served me well. I have yet to receive one that has any damage or defect, and aside from the fact that I see it every time I put on my lens cap, from a shooting perspective I'd never know it was there. No impacts to picture quality that I've ever noticed. ... show more

  • Fits great and gives a piece of mind that lens is protected
Not sure how well this protects against UV but I use it to protect the lens from dust and debris. This adds a layer of protection to my lens.

  • Should it rattle?
When unwrapping, the product immediately rattled. The lens retainer locking ring was loose. I fixed the rattle by tightening the ring, then a carefully placed dot of thread locker, but should not have been necessary. The glass was visibly dirty. No amount of cleaning would make it crystal clear. But at least it was inexpensive! :-) ... show more

  • Dirty at first but good
Upon opening the packaging for the filter I noticed it was a bit dirty and dusty. It took quite a bit of time to just get it clean. Once I got it clean it provided good protect for my lens.

  • Cheap protection
It's like wearing safety goggles...for your camera. I had one of these and was filming some welding. Needless to say a spark flew right into the lens. No worries...unscrew the old and screw in the new. $5 instead of $500 for a new camera. The clarity is good for HD (1080) video but might not be enough for some crazy high resolution stills. I can't tell its there in video but can't speak for it's use on a high res DSLR. I'd suspect you may want to look at a higher quality filter. But for 1080 video - you can't beat the protection for the price. ... show more
