To preface, I have been purchasing Thule products for over 20 years and feel they are of high quality materials and design. I still use Thule products that are over 20 years old. This is the first piece of Thule equipment I have been disappointed in. I purchased the rack adapter kit (490001) to mount the Hideaway Awning on my classic square bar rack. While assembling the adapter and attempting to attach the awning to the rack using the supplied carriage bolts I discovered the carriage bolts spun freely in the supplied metal plates. The square holes in the plates are larger than the squared section of the carriage bolt so they don't catch; making it impossible to tighten the bots and secure the awning to the rack. For a Thule product this is unexpected. For a $100 MSRP adapter, this is unacceptable. It will cost nearly $15 to get stainless steel hardware that works (hex head). For those purchasing this adapter, you may need to purchase additional M6 or 1/4" hex bolts, washers and lock nuts to complete the installation (8 bolts are required for standard rack mounting). The supplied hardware includes 2" M6 carriage bolts with washers and lock nuts for the rack connection (four Tee bolts are also provided for tee track racks). 1/4" bolts will fit through the supplied hardware in lieu of M6 bolts. Beyond the bolt issue, the plate and cover seem to be of high quality, durable materials as expected of a Thule product. Mounting on a Tee track rack should work without additional hardware. ... show more
