  • Perfect scanner for Porsche owner's who are struggling resetting the oil service
If you are looking for a tool which is capable of diagnosing your Porsche, this is what you want. I'm by no means a mechanic, just a DIY guy how doesn't want to spend 500 bucks on a simple oil change. So I bought 3 different diagnostic tools to find out, that only this one here could reset my oil service message shown in the dashboard. In comparison with another very popular diagnostic tool (TODDON Topscan) this one get it done. I dialed in the current day of the reset and the message disappeared. I compared both scanner next to each other and let me tell you something......this one is way faster and the whole user experience is playing in another league, specially if you are not familiar with all the details. Every step is explained, so an absolute newbie can get things done with this scanner. Would I buy it again? Hell yeah! Absolutely worth every penny, specially if you are a Porsche owner. Worked like a champ on my 2010 997.2 Targa 4s. Looking forward to see what it can do on my Audi and Ford. ... show more

  • Worth the money!
What you pay compared to what you get is a great deal! Personally, I think the updates are also a great deal as seen below. Granted the scan tool will only use the basic OBDII if the subscription runs out, but keeping the subscription active is much cheaper than keeping the Autel MS608 active for $800. "Thinkdiag2 only supports 1-year full software function use and update, after 1-year, if you don't renew it, you can only use the basic OBDII full function. By subscribing to an annual membership, you gain access to the full system and function of all compatible car models during the validity of the subscription: 1-year membership need 99.95 dollars 2-year membership need 159.95 dollars 5-year membership need 339.95 dollars To subscribe to one car brand need 49.95 dollars/Year (after subscription, you can get full system functions and special functions of all compatible models under its brand)". The Thinkdiag2 gives me just as much data and bi-direction control as my Launch x431 and the shop's Autel's. Since I bought the Thinkdiag2 I have been using it more than the two scan tools I mentioned. It's more convenient to use by holding my phone in one hand than holding a big tablet. Yes, the Thinkdiag2 has a few issues that need to be resolved, but so do the Launch and Autel scan tools. They don't do everything and that's the reason why professional automotive technicians have more than one scan tool. So far the only problems I had with the Thinkdiag2 it did not work well with a 2002 Ford Thunderbird, it did not communicate well with it and on the Fords Power Balance test it will stop working after about 5 seconds on CANBus systems, you have to exit the program and start over. Non-CANBus system's Power Balance works fine. I use the APP on a cheap Samsung AO1 TracFone, the only issue I have is a lack of space, the APP and ThinkDiag2 work well with it. The APP may not work with a tablet, it's not made to, which is stated in the description of the product. The product is well made and comes with a nice sturdy case. The cable and scanner are separate, that way if the cable gets damaged you can replace the cable and not the scanner. I have uploaded photos of the unit and several screenshots from the scan tool. ... show more

  • Worked good on my explorer.expedition and f150 but would not link up with f250 powerstroke.
Was disappointed it wouldn't link with my 7.3 powerstroke but worth it for the rest of my vehicle.

  • Doesn't work as advertised.
I too considered the negative reviews and decided to try anyway. I emailed ThinkCar and got confirmation that I could do a 2008 Prius ABS brake bleed and linear offset relearn for our ABS actuator replacement project (yes, the $1200 part, or the $2700 repair at your local shop). It can be done. The mechanial part is actually not hard, just tedious and time consuming. It's the post repair configuration that gets you. I noted in the product FAQ's that functions were not as "robust" on IOS, so I purchased an Android tablet. Software would not install, said incompatible. First flag. Installed software manually on the tablet no issues. Initialized the software for Toyota and successfully registered and connected to car. Proceeded to run the ABS brake bleed but it would not finish successfully, crashing at various points or finishing "unsuccessful". Four hours of retrying and searching for answers, no luck. No online support, email or phone only during work hours m-f. Not taking a day off to get the runaround as described in other negative reviews. We then proceeded to use the mini vci cable and cloned tech stream software also purchased off Amazon. (Which involved building a windows 7 pc for compatibility, and downloading an ancient copy of tech stream from a forum because the software included in the Amazon product was bogus.) Which, believe it or not, actually worked. There are other required functions in order to actually complete the job: resets, clear the various DTC's due to the system being dissembled, and a final reset to clear the brake, abs and vsc dash lights, which I'm not sure the ThinkDiag could accomplish, never made it that far. This seems like a great product for DIY work. Affordable at $135, a great advantage over other products - which there appear to be none. I spent several hours and contacted several vendors trying to find a diagnostic scanner to do this work and it appears there are none, save the several thousand dollar commerical products, or possibly the Harbor Freight scanner at $900. Sorry folks, very enticing but not ready for prime time. ... show more
