    • Nice, not designed to heat a room.
This is a nice heater for a small space like a chicken coop or rabbit cage. It is designed to keep the area from freezing, not keep it 75 degrees. As such, it does a great job. The heating element gets hot to the touch, but not so hot you can get burned. I'm using it in a 4ft by 4ft rabbit cage. I can actually place by hand directly on the surface for a second or two with no consequences other than a vary warm hand, so no problem if one of the rabbits brushes against it. Here in this part of the country we don't get freezing temperatures till late October or November, and this rabbit cage is in an enclosed area not directly affected by outside weather, but it does get below zero at times. Given how much heat it does give off, I think this will keep the cage above freezing. I will re-post in December and let you know how well it does. This thing never gets hot enough to start a fire. That requires an open flame or a very hot heating element. This does not have either. You can tell that they paid attention to details. For example, chickens and other critters like to peck and chew on things, so the cord is covered with a hard plastic to keep a critter from getting to the electric cord. The remote control is handy if you're installing this on a ceiling, or under something that would make it difficult to reach. ... show more

    • Good temperature control and significant heat output
I tested this by plugging it into a power meter and measuring the heat output using both an infrared thermometer and a contact probe on a multimeter . Set to the max temperature it pulled 107 watts from the outlet and quickly reached 188 F in infrared output with the surface temperature at 155 F . Both measurements were at the center of the panel . The center and center-top portion were the hottest with the flanks being about 25 degrees cooler . But , I'm testing this in an 80 degree room so the thermostat would reduce power ( down to 67 watts ) upon reaching the max temp so the device didn't have time to equalize . This is the 3rd heater in this style that I have explored recently and is by far the best . It's the only one to reach it's advertised temperature , the others didn't even come close , and it does this consuming half the wattage it supposedly draws . I think the control pad on the heater would be better if it were located on the back , but the remote control kinda makes this a moot point . Super long power cord that is fitted with a well secured sheath for extra protection . Cord length is 9 feet . Definitely recommend ! ... show more

Remote control to be able to adjust temperatures in your brooder. Nothing makes you feel better than being able to protect your chicks to the best of your ability, this heater makes it possible to control the environment you put your chicks into

    • keeps it from freezing
I got this to put in my small greenhouse. i know, not its primary use, buuuut it works great. we had a sudden cold front and it froze some of my plants by the open door, but not any by the warmer. im sure with the door shut they will be fine. its even produces enough heat to allow my plants to not go into shock with the cold air like last year. i put this on a cement block to keep it off the wet ground, it feels more fragile than i thought it was gonna be. ... show more

Does not glow as pictured in listing. It does NOT have a radiation of 16 inches, you have to be right next to it. At the highest setting, 185° I could put my hand right next to it and barely feel the heat. I gave it 2 stars because it did turn on. The back is flimsy plastic and you definitely would not want to get any moisture on it so using it for outdoor chicken coop may be a problem. It has several heat settings lower than 185 but those are not useful tome as they are way too low for my use. ... show more
