  • Great CPU Cooling for a Good Price
Style: PA120 SE
When I built my PC five years ago I installed a Dark Rock Pro 4 for my CPU cooler. It worked very well, but over the years the fans grew louder, the cooling became less efficient, and dust began to accumulate in hard to clean places. I decided to look for an affordable replacement and settled on the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. Overall, I believe this was a very good choice. Compared to my Dark Rock Pro 4, the Thermalright Peerless Assassin was a breeze to install. The LGA 155x bracket fit my motherboard and was easy to install. The thermal paste seemed thicker than other pastes I've used, but it went on neatly and is clearly working. The spring screws seem to have secured the cooler to the brackets very well. My biggest complaint with my old cooler was installing the fans. Happily, I can report that the Peerless Assassin's fan are easy to install, and remove if needed, and are secure. In terms of performance, I'm completely satisfied. The fans are not as quiet as my Dark Rock Pro 4 when I first installed it. However, they are an acceptable low volume. My PC has an Intel Core i7-8700k CPU and the cooler has no problem keeping it between 20C to 30C while idle or under a light load. I am no longer an avid gamer, and do not play modern video games, however I did test the thermals while playing Minecraft. It kept my CPU around 40C most of the time and would briefly shoot up to 50C when loading parts of the map. At less than 40 USD this cooler is a fantastic option for CPU cooling. Its significantly less expensive than comparable coolers, is easy to install, and delivers good performance. ... show more

  • Great cooler, fantastic quality and value for money.
Style: PA120 SE
I was going to get a Noctua NH-D15 Chromax but there was a long shipping delay on Amazon so I cancelled it and took a chance on this instead and I am so glad I did as the performance is very similar and it was literally less than 1/3 of the price. This thing is well made, heavy, and is so much higher quality than other coolers I've purchased previously at this price point. I was amazed how expensive it feels in the hand. Heavy duty. Assembly was very easy on an AM4 using the included bracket. I'm running a 5900x on a B550 and at stock settings it never passes 60c after 3 hours of prime95 smallFFTs. This is fantastic cooling performance. I decided to cut it back to 65w eco mode and disable PBO/CPB/global c-states because I don't need the extra boost and then it tops out at 57c. Very nice, very pleased. ... show more

  • Great alternate to water cooling CPUs
Style: PA120 SE
This cooler is part of a new build using an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D/ASRock X670E Steel Legend motherboard. After using AIO liquid cooling on all my computer builds for years, I thought about making a switch to air cooling based on many recent articles the two cooling types. Thought I'd give this a try and compare for myself, considering the price difference. Install was pretty simple and the included fans seem to perform well enough to get the most out of what this air cooler can provide. After bootup and running the system through its paces, thermals are comparable to my AIO (3 fan). Very quiet during gameplay. My dislikes: Included instruction sheet was pretty minimal and the illustrations really didn't help explain how the clips attached the fans to the cooler. A few minutes on YT videos cured all issues with install. The other downside to this cooler (for me) is that the heat-pipes rise is just short enough when installed on my motherboard that the one fan is sitting on top of my G.Skill RAM (Trident RGB area) after installing according to the instructions and viewing some videos. For me, this happened when installing the fans in the "push" configuration from the videos. If the heat pipes were 1/8th of an inch taller, it wouldn't have been an issue. I may look into changing the fans to a "pull" config (where they are pulling air through) and changing their location on the cooler. However, I'm in no hurry right now as there's no functional problems, just my OCD kicking in a little. Was there any thought given about taller RAM sticks of performance RAM during design? No idea and nothing noted online. Just my experience with this item. Works great and the cost is reasonable, considering how expensive it is right now to tackle a new computer build. Would recommend. ... show more

  • Works well, easy to install, great price - Cooling an i7 - 11700KF
Style: PA120 SE ARGB
Have had water coolers on my main PC for the past three years, My second water system just stopped working so I decided to try air only. Install was much easier than another water unit and all parts were present. After 48 hours I've repeatedly run Cinebench for 10 minutes at a time with 100% CPU utilization on all cores, and played Dying Light 2 for two hours straight on three occasions. At this point I think it has been stress tested pretty well. Resting CPU temp with <1% load on the CPU is about 40 to 45 Deg. C. Temp with Cinebench running all cores at 100% load x 10 minutes showed 65 to 70 Deg C. Dying Light for 2 hours with a hot 3080 GPU peaked at 90 Deg C. These temps came back to the 50 Deg C range within a minute of closing the either game or Cinebench each time. All in all this seems to be an easy to install Air Cooler that is also whisper quiet and cools my Intel 11700KF CPU well. At $35 for this cooler versus $150 for another water unit, I am more than satisfied that this was the best option. Came with all I needed in the box, including thermal paste and instructions. ... show more
