I had been thinking about getting into crocheting so when I saw this kit being advertised I decided I would finally give it a go and then see how we do from there to decide if this would be something for me hobby wise. The kit does come with everything you need, access to videos on how to kinda read the patterns if you come across this abbreviation for a knot and what it means, video demonstrations or just the pattern for you to read. In the beginning I thought this was really good and I loved the videos, but I slowly started to dislike it the furthur we went because at some point the videos will stop and it just directs you into the direction of "you are on your own now, fly little bird!" which made me panic because as a beginner it's like wait a minute don't just leave me half way! And then when it does leave you on your own it never tells you "OKAY this is what you should have in the end" which I think would have helped greatly to know because during alot of this process, I thought certain parts didn't look right, but I had nothing to know if I had done it right or not so i was left thinking just "trust the process I guess" Which I shouldn't have, because of course as a beginner you are going to make mistakes, it just is frustrating when you don't know it till it's too late. For me it was pretty much everything, but every mistake I made I just tried to figure out "how do I save this" I didnt realize till I had finished the LAST part of this kit (which is the mane) that I had messed up on the body I made him too chunky, so the mane didn't fit, I never figured out the ears because it didn't give me a video for it just instructions, but when I followed the instructions, it did not look at ALL even remotely like an ear or anything, and again nothing to show me this it should look, so i had to look at a completly different tutorial for that because one specific knot technique was tripping me up and it was apart of the ears and body. They show you a video on how to do it but not how to go from one different knot to the next, because you have to put the needle in specific locations with certain knots so I could only assume I was doing it right because again it never really tells you The videos are mostly also generic, I thought the videos would all be on how to make the lion, but that's not ALWAYS the case. When I had to attach the ears it showed me a video on how to attach a penguin beak. When I had to attach the snout it showed me how to attach a penguin white body part. When it was teaching me how to make the body it wasn't the lions body just generic to this is how you do this knot and this knot Which is, not helpful to me. You can say well it's just teaching you how to attach any part needed for any project but I would have liked as a beginner to know SPECIFICALLY how to attach these little lions parts. And or would have been NICE to know from the get go this should be the body! Messed up sewing in the snout and just had to figure it out, along with the nose because for the nose it teaches you where to put the needle in twice then speeds the video up saying "okay now fill it in" and I'm over here on the back like DONT SPEED IT UP HOW DO I FILL IN?!" And i just figured it out after messing up so much that I couldn't undo or take back where I put the needle so just had to commit. Overall the kit is great for giving you all the stuff needed for the project and good for teaching you how to do the different techniques and knots. As a step by step guide on how to make this character..not so much..Unless you have some experience prior I'm sure it's easy peasy but for beginner it will be alot of trial and error and just commiting through with mistakes and just trying to work around the issue. Its still fun, just don't get discouraged and keep at it. I would probably recommend getting the penguin set since there seems to be more videos on him if you want more of a step by step video guide, but if you are okay with learning the basics and just going on your own then I think this is good ... show more

My 6 year old daughter and I have been learning how to crochet for the first time and this kit has been absolutely awesome! My daughter is doing the entire thing herself as I just act as a guide and the online tutorial is the perfect pace, simplifies the instructions, and is easy to follow. She is about half way through creating the lion and it has been an incredible way to spend quality time together being creative. Thank you for creating such an amazing product. My daughter asked for some of these kits for Christmas. She is 11 and while I thought she would like them, they required a bit too much dexterity and failure than she had the patience for. So I took them and I LOVE THEM!! I have zero experience with crocheting, knitting, or anything in that realm. But I was determined to learn. You do have to have patience, so I think these kits are probably better suited for teens and adults. The videos are fantastic and well paced, but I still screwed up quite a few times and had to go back to the beginning. However, I persevered and completed my first kit and now my second kit is much easier. These kits are not cheap, but that's because you are paying for the instruction that comes with them. And the instruction is excellent for beginners. One tip: You really need to be at an iPad or computer (large screen) in order to view the videos. Viewing them on a phone just doesn't work in my experience because you need to be able to see detail. Once I did this with my iPad, it was so much easier. ... show more

Bought this for a 9 yo interested in crocheting stuffed toys. I watched the video several times so I could help get my kid started but couldn’t make much progress even though I know how to knit. The instructions are almost too detailed and repetitive for the first steps and then too general. I wish there was a booklet provided instead of having to scan a QR code and juggle the phone to scroll the videos to whichever sections I needed to rewatch with the yarn draped over my fingers. In short, this was frustrating for both me and my kid. Probably good for someone who already knows the basics of crocheting.
