Description

A compelling vision of a new reality, a reconciliation of science and the human spirit for a future that will work The dynamics underlying the major problems of our time—cancer, crime, pollution, nuclear power, inflation, the energy shortage—are all the same. We have reached a time of dramatic and potentially dangerous change, a turning point for the planet as a whole. We need a new vision of reality, one that allows the forces transforming our world to flow together as a positive movement for social change. Now distinguished scientist Fritjof Capra gives us that vision, a holistic paradigm of science and spirit. “This splendid and thoughtful book is an essential guide for anyone inquiring about the place of science and metascience in our contemporary culture. Those who enjoyed Fritjof Capra’s Tao of Physics should not expect a sequel; this is a much more ambitious book that attempts and succeeds in presenting a whole worldview from the viewpoint of a committed and experienced physicist who also writes from within the North American culture…. It is unusually detailed and thorough in its inclusion of the conventional and the alternative approaches to topics ranging from ecology through medicine and psychology to economics. It is at once scholarly and easy to read.”—Jim Lovelock, New Scientist Read more

  • Blueprint for a Bright Future
THE TURNING POINT is an amazing and fascinating review of our wasteful and dead Newtonian, Cartesian, paternalistic, reductive society and makes a great case that we are on the cutting edge of a New Paradigm, of The Gaia, Mother Earth Syndrome, feminisim and quantum mechanics. I have done a play in NYC called THE LEFTOVER BROTHER where I dramatize the whole premise of The Turning Point along with the DVD on quantum mechanics, the physics of possibilites, (where the world is not already solid, a "thing" until we look at it, and we can make up our own realities, and can become the Avatar /Self we were meant to be) What The Bleeb Do We Know? Another book along this line is Taking The Quantum Leap, by Fred Alan Wolf, and Fire In The Belly, by Sam Keene. Turning Point is very well written by a very literate physicist Fritjof Capra who also wrote the fasinating The Tao of Physics which can be read in tandem with Ken Wilber's - Quantum Questions. The Turning Point is a must read for those who want to be enlightened and will join with the millions of intelligent, spiritual men and women, who want to see a blazing light at the end of the tunnel of the 21st CENTURY that is not a destructive mechanistic Newtonian train coming in the other direction.(This book has been made into a DVD film) EDWARD NAGEL [...] ... show more

  • Critically important
Frankly, at the outset I had my doubts about this book, but it was recommended by a good friend and scientist in Argentina. Eventually I caught the rhythm and vision of the book--yes, I needed to stretch, ponder, and be willing to listen and re-conceive many things. As other have said, the book might be some decades old, but it reads extremely relevant, perhaps even more relevant now, perhaps even more urgent, and more accessible now in 2020. Going through this 400+ page book was a journey and like all journeys or explorations, it requires adaptation, change, and flexibility. ... show more

  • A Must Read For Everyone Concerned About Society and Our Changing Culture.
This book takes an historical look at how science started in the days of Newton in the 17th century. It goes on to describe and explain what has happened since. There are fascinating descriptions of new ideas and of understanding how we view people and the world today. The author, Fritjof Capra, writes very clearly and explains complicated ideas in very simple terms. This is a very thoughtful book that should be rewarding for any thinking person. ... show more

  • As relevant today as it was 35 years ago
Written in 1982, this book is even more relevant to the state of the world. It discusses the cycle of change from the viewpoint of both i ching, Cartesian science through to the modern physics. The rise of Trumpism, we are at an extreme of Yang inworld affairs which means that the cycle will change back to a more yin world. ... show more

  • My turning point.
I read this book in my junior college year for a class in international studies and it change my perspective how to view the world and my need to understand the how my perspectives influence my existence and my world ideologies. I purchased this book just recently and I am happy to have it again and enjoy reading it and get back to Capra's perspectives. ... show more

  • It was hard to get through some parts but crazy how this was written in the early 80's and we are still rigid to change for a better world system
A must read. It was hard to get through some parts but crazy how this was written in the early 80's and we are still rigid to change for a better world system.

  • An old book but ever new
Well written and very challenging book. The author builds superbly a chain of arguments and invites us to evaluate our own "mental software" and the very few paradigms that constrain it. If you like philosophy, this book probably will open new horizons for investigation. After reading it, maybe could be a nice idea try watching an old movie (Mind Walk, Liv Ulman) inspired by the same theme. ... show more

  • Relevant to Today
When reading this book, it feels like I'm reading it in today's time! I am so happy that my professor had this book to read. Warning, it is very dense, yet very informative
