Description

A history of the world's most famous wristwatch manufacturer, known as the "watch with crown." The brand with the crown is recognized worldwide as an invaluable sports implement and luxury product. In little more than one hundred years, it has become one of the most successful and innovative watch brands on the planet. From the beginning, the sponsorship of statesmen, movie stars, and athletes has driven its success, but the company has expanded to include more than just the rich and famous. Rolex manufactures more than a half a million wristwatches per year while maintaining an outstanding reputation and near-perfect quality. The Rolex Oyster became the first watch to defy the elements when, in 1927, Mercedes Gleitze wore one while she swam the English Channel. In 1933, the company patented the first automatic winding mechanism.Browse images and historical and technical details of the most reliable Rolex models, including the Submariner, Cosmograph, and Yachtmaster, which divers, auto-racers, and boat captains trust for their precision and durability.Includes updated reports written about new Rolex ideas and performance tests featured in the German watch magazine Armbanduhren (Wristwatch) from the past 15 years.Features more than 185 color photographs.Plus a price guide! This book is a complete and comprehensive guide for Rolex collectors and anyone interested in the history and manufacture of the "watch with the crown." • Great info & attractive book BUT not happy with how it's shipped
Book is a great read. However, no five stars based on the fact AMAZON just placed the book loosely in a box. We were lucky that the book was not damaged too badly. This was for my husband. If we were giving it as a gift, I would have returned it. Come on, books need to be secured with bubble wrap and packing that limits movement. We have had this problem before with a GUCCI tabletop book. Unfortunately, were not so lucky with the condition it arrived in and returned for refund. ... show more

  • This book you need- Any Rolex aficionado will truly appreciate page-for-page.....
As a rolex collector (12+ watches) this is an invaluable book on history, date-coding and internals as well as design to build stories- I loved every single page... If you are a Rolex owner you can obviously afford this book... You will feel a lot better than a Patake owner after opening this and you should set some time aside as I read it cover-to-cover and blew off a meeting as I was so inthralled in the book!!! Great writing- even where it stings... It's a great book to add to your collection as a Rolex owner or potential buyer. I'm biased owning many but I also have Cartier, and several other 10K+ watches..... Just a great read cover to cover- It's a great addition or gift to a Rolex owner!!! ... show more
