Description

In The Power of the Actor, a Los Angeles Times bestseller, premier acting teacher and coach Ivana Chubbuck reveals her cutting-edge technique, which has launched some of the most successful acting careers in Hollywood. The first book from the instructor who has taught Charlize Theron, Brad Pitt, Elisabeth Shue, Djimon Hounsou, and Halle Berry, The Power of the Actor guides you to dynamic and effective results. For many of today’s major talents, the Chubbuck Technique is the leading edge of acting for the twenty-first century. Ivana Chubbuck has developed a curriculum that takes the theories of the acting masters, such as Stanislavski, Meisner, and Hagen, to the next step by utilizing inner pain and emotions, not as an end in itself, but rather as a way to drive and win a goal.In addition to the powerful twelve-step process, the book takes well-known scripts, both classic and contemporary, and demonstrates how to precisely apply Chubbuck’s script-analysis process. The Power of the Actor is filled with fascinating and inspiring behind-the-scenes accounts of how noted actors have mastered their craft and have accomplished success in such a difficult and competitive field. • Great Start!
I'm going to be starting her class next month, so I had to read her book. But surprisingly, it was easy to read and very thought-provoking. Even if you're not going to take her class, I do think it's worth reading if you want to be a serious actor.

  • Required for her classes
I like this book. I bought it because I'm taking her classes next month and you're supposed to read this before you start. I like it because it BREAKS things down, it's a great process and Ivana is clearly very smart. It's missing a star because sometimes, I'd get lost. There are a lot of name-drops / examples of celebrities she's worked with, and while I can understand her reasoning for doing that, it was just too much information for me. I wish it was just an example instead of making it more complicated and cluttered by adding the names of celebrities and what she did to work with them. (I have ADHD and it's hard for me to focus and hold attention, so maybe this is just me. ... show more

  • great detailed technique
I really enjoyed and got inspired by this book. There are a lot of things that made sense but more that challenged y comfort level of approaching anything in life. It reflects how hard Ms Chubbuck goes after success with a great focus on preparedness and hard work. Shows that anyone can be who they want to.. ... show more
