Oh. My. Gawd!!! By far - this is one of the best books I've read in a long while. One of those books that I couldn't seem to put down. I would be on my way to the grocery store and be so absorbed in where I'd left off in the story, I'd pull onto a side street and read for at least five minutes (because, I really needed to get to the grocery store). Then, at the grocery store, I chose the longest line - Why? Because I wanted to use that time to read a bit more! (Because i knew when I got home i had to crack-a-lack with making dinner.) I connected with Journey West in a way I never thought I would. Maybe because the writing was clever, and funny yet at the same time touching and insightful. Maybe because the plotting was superb. Love being surprised! Maybe because I felt every emotion in this book from despair to joy to jealousy to being totally turned on! Journey learns to think in a way that she never had before, and she realizes her own power. It's a story about self-discovery and self-love. It's a story about making sure you yourself are taken care of and to stop being walked all over. It's a story with heart and soul and a lesson. ... show more

  • Intriguing storyline to go with the sex
I enjoyed the story, enjoyed the sex, even enjoyed the confusing combative nature of this couples marriage. Not sure people really think the way the story developed is plausible but this is, after all, fantasy. They say honest communication is the bedrock of a great marriage. Our troubled couple talk but neither of them actually listened, or should I say, comprehend what the other was trying to say. The wife was a bit self-centered in my view; sure she articulates her supposed reasons for her trip to the dark side, but it comes off lame and too quick like she was hurriedly seeking a reason to justify her misbehaving. The selfishness even extends to her boy toy, she feels entitled to sleep around but thinks bad if he does This it told from the wife's point of view. She is constantly self analyzing everything even the sex she is having. Still four stars, Phoebe wrote an interesting story. ... show more

  • Best work by this author to date!
Journey West (yes, that's her actual name!) is a very vanilla school teacher with a husband who can't seem to "complete" his marital obligations. Add in a job transfer and an empty nest and needless to say, Ms West is less than thrilled with her life of late. Enter some new work friends who introduce Journey to a world of sexual freedom and pleasure - in no time, Journey has become enmeshed in a life that she knew nothing about only months before, which provides good distractions from the less-than-stellar state of her marriage. Through a course of dramatic and semi-tragic events, Journey finds herself in a quandary: save her marriage, or continue enjoying her newfound sexual awakening? Or just maybe...she can have it all? Journey is a like-able and relatable protagonist, and thanks to the author's personable style of writing, I felt the gamut of emotions that she felt in dealing with her husband and the new swinging lifestyle. Author Phoebe Alexander introduces her readers to real, timely subject matter in a very relatable way, and provides plenty of heat in her characters' steamy moments thanks to excellent use of imagery. Highly recommend! ... show more

  • Arousing sex scenes
I got this book after seeing it on a free book alert. I did not know the author but the premise sounded interesting. The book was good, and some of the sex scenes were pretty arousing. I enjoyed the book for what it was, but you could come away with the thought that the book was advocating for the swinger lifestyle. For instance, you could come away thinking that it can fix broken marriages, give you self-esteem; or help you find yourself. I don't know anything about the swinger lifestyle and do not know anyone who participates in it but Journey West's experience in this book made it seem extremely complicated and nerve wracking. ... show more

  • This book gave me all the feels!!!
This was a very beautifully written story and had my emotions all over the place. Lessons were learned and love was all around. Journey and Rob's story was very relatable and I found myself routing for them. I also enjoyed all the other couples, hope to read about them in the future. A couple things I will take away from this book. 1. Keep an opened mind and 2. Communication is key in all relationships. This is definitely a must read, get your copy today. ... show more

  • Overall, a good book - better than most - with some character/plot problems
Let me begin by stating that this will be a minority opinion. I did not like this book as much as other reviewers. First, let me note that the author does a very good job on character development. By the time that you are mid-way through the book, you feel that you know the major characters (especially Journey and to a lesser extent her husband) - that is good since it is the mark of a good write. The story line is good - it does not read like some adolescence dream of sex, sex, and more sex. Plot development is good except for two issues. First, and here is where I disagree with many reviewers, I came to dislike the main character - Journey. She had a problem with her marriage. Instead of taking care of it, she decides to turn to swinging. Numerous times, she treated her husband with disrespect. She spends the night with one of her lover without telling her husband (which bothers her). She finds out that the husband has ED and porn addiction, which angers her, while her own actions are discounted and rationalized. She has an argument with her husband and runs off - ultimately contributing to an accident experienced by her husband. What other reviewers have viewed as being empowered and taking more for herself, I regard as selfishness. The second is that the ending wrap-up is simply too quick and too convenient - the husband joins her in the swing lifestyle with a two week period and the problems with ED are gone. Wow - how convenient. Overall, a good book - better than most - but one that left me shaking my head in disbelief. Worth the read. ... show more
