Description

Two people make a wager on who can find love first, not realizing what they should be betting on is each other, in this new romantic comedy by Lynn Painter, New York Times bestselling author of Mr. Wrong Number. Hallie Piper is turning over a new leaf. After belly-crawling out of a hotel room (hello, rock bottom), she decides it’s time to become a full-on adult. She gets a new apartment, a new haircut, and a new wardrobe, but when she logs onto the dating app that she has determined will find her new love, she sees none other than Jack, the guy whose room she snuck out of. After agreeing they are absolutely not interested in each other, Jack and Hallie realize they’re each other’s perfect wing-person in their searches for The One. They text each other about their dates, often scheduling them at the same restaurant so that if things don’t go well, the two of them can get tacos afterward. Spoiler: they get a lot of tacos together. Discouraged by the lack of prospects, Jack and Hallie make a wager to see who can find true love first, but when they agree to be fake dates for a weekend wedding, all bets are off. As they pretend to be a couple, lines become blurred and they both struggle to remember why the other was a bad idea to begin with. Read more

  • Witty Romance
Great characters, funny dialogue, and well paced storytelling make this book an enjoyable read. Lynn Painter is an automatic buy.

  • A Bets a Bet!
If you read the first book and are wondering if you should give this one a go, I’d say yes. The style is very similar, this story is about Jack, brother of Olivia and best friend of Colin’s. A few factors have changed his way of thinking about being in a relationship and now he’s dating with a purpose, to find his HEA. Little did he know that his tiny bartender would be someone he wants to get to know better and spend more time with. Again like the first book, some things don’t quite add up or seemed out of character but the story was pretty good. It was fairly authentic and what I love most is the banter between Jack and Hallie. I can see them double dating with Livvie and Colin and having the best time with loads of laughs. I am enjoying making my way through this authors works. ... show more

  • Excellent banter & a duo that makes you fall in love with love
📖 RomCom ⭐4.5/5 🌶️ 🌶️ (multiple open door scenes but nothing explicit) ➡ Hallie Piper is fun, ambitious and outspoken but a year after her long term boyfriend left her heartbroken, she still hasn't meandered back onto the dating scene. Feeling eternally lonely since his favorite uncle passed away and his little sister got engaged to his best friend, Jack finds himself rushing toward forever with the wrong woman. When a misunderstanding brings them together for a night that ends in Hallie sneaking out of Jack's hotel room braless the next morning, they both think they've seen the last of each other. To their surprise, they reconnect weeks after their run in through a dating app they've both committed to trying in hopes of finding the one. They strike up a bet and a friendship to see who can find lasting love first- but when their dates continue to end in disaster, they start to realize their friendship may be turning into something more. ◾ 🎯 What I loved: This was such an easy, fun read. It was a great friends to lovers trope without excessive pining- something I find most books with the trope have too much of. Both Hallie and Jack were smart, driven individuals on their own that brought out the best in each other. Their banter was top notch and I thought it was fun that their relationship was sandwiched between two weddings. The Love Wager wasn't emotionally stressful- it marketed as a fun RomCom and totally delivered. I didn't want to put the book down either which is always a good sign! 🙅♀️ What I didn't: I loved Hallie and Jack's story but wish we would have gotten a few more snippets from Liv and Colin at their wedding (if you read Mr. Wrong Number, this is the sequel)- I'm always looking for more from happy couples! ◾ Read if you love: *friends to lovers *fake dating *great banter ◾ See also: Accidentally Amy, My Favorite Half-Night Stand, Crazy Stupid Bromance ... show more

  • It was cute!
It was a pretty quick, easy read and very lighthearted & fun. I expected there to be more witty banter, given the reviews I saw before I read it, but there were some funny parts for sure. Overall spice level of 2. The main issue I had with it is that I felt like the main characters couldn't decide how they felt about each other, and there was sort of a miscommunication trope which I find annoying. Essentially, they just didn't communicate properly and assumed they knew how the other person felt without really asking. The other thing I wasn't sure about was that I had trouble getting a feel for the MMC's personality. He seemed a little all over the place. But I did enjoy reading this book and found it immersive and fun! ... show more

Lynn did it again! Loved the banter and the friendship. Predictable but a good easy fun read.

  • This is the second book in a series, but can be read as a stand-alone novel
Here’s the thing… I didn’t realize this was part of a series, so I read it as a stand alone. I don’t actually think I lost anything by not having read Mr. Wrong Number first, but I fell in love with the characters from that one, so I will be reading it eventually *eyes the TBR list that more closely resembles Jack’s beanstalk*. I loved Hallie from the start. She was smart, sassy, charming and strong… then she was drunk, sexy and hilarious. The chemistry between herself and Jack was amazing instantly, but I can see why they would think they weren’t eachother’s “forever” ( they slept together the night they met after he dumped the woman he was about to propose to). Still, they both know that they want more from relationships and when they find themselves on the same dating app they decide to support one another- by making the most juvenile bet ever and having post-date tacos. The banter between them and their road to bff’s had me laughing. I found the characters charming, funny, comforting and just really fell in love with them. Has Jack upsurped Adam Carlsen as best book boyfriend of the last three years (to me, anyway)? No. But he’s adorable and I love how he is with Hallie. This was a fun, fast read that did not shy away from stronger emotions. It had a good flow to the story and I think the duel narrative actually made the audiobook the better choice (I had been reading the eBook from the library but ran out of time so I bought it). For me, this was a five star read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Rating: 5 out of 5. As far as adult content goes, there’s drinking, sexual content (lots) and language. It’s definitely geared towards adults but New Adult would, I think be fine. There are several making out/ sex scenes. I would say, a spice level of three. ... show more
