  • Sublime album
The Last Resort is indeed an amazing album, complete with 13 tracks of mesmerising and dark electronic music. The skillful production of Trentemoller creates an eerie and surreal landscape full of the coldest emotions one can experience. From the sinister The Very Last Resort to the melancholy Miss You, The Last Resort encompasses an ambiguous sensation of dark psychology and philosophy by disallowing vocals in any of the songs, with the exceptions of whispers and samples that further strengthen the unnerving quality of the album. Many have said that it resembles that of a film soundtrack, and in fact it does. Conjuring images of the cyberpunk city from Blade Runner, or the dreamy cinematography from The Big Combo its minimal and complex mysteries correspond greatly to the visual medium and such effect is enhanced by film noirs, surrelist and dark films. The Last Resort is one of electronic music's greatest albums and is in fact my favourite album as well. For those who wish to explore the darker side of electronica or rather the eerie atmosphere of the mind, then The Last Resort is a necessity. If one would rather wish to relax then again the album will match the criteria without question. A startlingly beautiful album, full of strange and yet compelling music. ... show more

  • Deep, Dark and Dirty
I downloaded this on a whim and can't get over how much I'm enjoying this album. Although this album has it's roots in trance it's way more complex, introspective and moody (and way less predictable) than most trance albums. This album folds in a lot of ambient influences creating more of a "soundscape" than tracks with clear melodies. Although the album flirts with ambiance, deep primal rhythms tie the tracks together to keep it from disassociating into an ambient album. The moods range throughout incorporating different combinations of dark, fun, driving intensity, minimal breaks, introspection, and occasionally leads into (needed) moments of lightness and clarity. I would have paid the full album price for the first track alone. This is a true Album, play it from the beginning and enjoy the ride. ... show more

  • 40 Years of Electronic Music
I still remember when popular electronic music came out in the late 1960's to early 1970's with the masters Brain Eno, Larry Fast, & Klaus Schulze to name a few. There were also remakes of Classical music from Tomita to "Switch on Bach". Looking back the real Electronic Originals were from the modern classical composers such as Steve Reich or Stockhausen. I will not get into the Theremin, which is a whole other Topic. Later in the mid to late 1970's the German or North West European pop music took on its own form of repetitive dance music as for example Kraftwerk. There are too many Electronic artists to name & this review is not going to be a history lesson but I hear so many influences with Trentmoller. Take the added process of minimalist classical music, slow down the beat & style of Kraftwerk, add a lot of analog sound mixes, shake it up with a deep low bass line, & you will come close to what this CD is about. Some reviews write that the music is "Dark" but it isn't Gothic & I have heard "Darker" music as in "Nine Inch Nails" which I don't care to listen to. Sounds like a young Danish DJ creating slow German dance music with a unique sound that makes it a cut above the "Pop" scene. I never thought that my car would be "Throbbing" with a deep bass line & if I ever get tired of the music I know a young man that may like it. I bought the CD because Amazon.com recommended it after I bought Lisa Gerrard with Klaus Schulze "Farscape" which is a totally different vein of music, but I am enjoying "Last Resort". ... show more

  • Very good vinyl pressing, great sound quality, incredible album.
Perhaps the greatest electronic album ever made. Ethereal soundscape and incredible driving bass. Good pressing and apparent volume, with lots of bass. I got this album on sale and love it, but there is a 3 disc version of this vinyl with several very good songs that didn't make this condensed version, and although almost double the price of this one on sale, it would be worth it for the extra songs. It is a landmark album. ... show more

  • An atmospheric album by Trentmöller
This is an unusual album for Trentmöller but it is by far my favorite. The album is full of textures and soundscapes that are very well visualized by the album art. In a style I would call Progressive House, he creates rhythms and beats, hooks and drops, with mastery. I hope he does more in this vein. ... show more
