Sorry if I'm not the most eloquently spoken. To start I loved the first game with a burning passion. I love Joel and Ellie, even Tommy after the first. I loved the game play and story telling as whole granted the AI's could have used some more work. The DLC that came after I also liked but not nearly as much. However, I think it gave good background story and nice filler for the main game. Now bare with me cause most people don't want to hear a good review because after the leaks they made up their minds and that was the end of the story. But like the first you need the whole picture included small talks during game play to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I ruined parts of it by watching and reading all the leaks that came out shortly before the release. I couldn't help myself. The first round of leaks initially made me unsure of if I was going to like the overall story as what I had read stated that the game was based around the Seraphites being a cult like group of Christians that solely were after people due to them being gay and various other in my opinion SJW pushes. (They resemble a different group in my opinion now) Then the leaks came out about Joel and the second half of the game play. These actually peaked my interest more as they disproved the first leaks to some extent. I already suspected that Joel would not last through the entire game before the leaks and I personally think that everyone should have seen that coming. He was not a hero in the first. In fact what he did in the first was a selfish act but he did it out of love for someone he saw as his daughter. Most parents would do anything for their children, blood or not. These actions are what set's up the story for the second game. They have effects on other people's lives that we are shown through out the game and while there are parts of it where the pacing stumbles and a few scenes I could have gone without (sex scene in particular as I don't think it did anything for the story really) but it overall still pulls on the heart strings and makes you think. It does force you to try to see why each person carries out their actions that they see fit and this is not for everyone. From a lot of the backlash I've seen most people can't let go of the rage and that clouds their judgement for the second half of the game. I personally felt like I was able to understand and sympathize with both sides in the end but you must realize it comes at a cost to both in different ways. Granted there is debate on who lost more. Overall the game has beautiful scenery and graphics, stage design and layout works well and I personally only had one bug through the entire thing which involved the dog at the aquarium. I think that parts of it can be a bit slow and like I said before some things I think could have been left out including a few of the dream sequences that felt like filler. I think a few of the character's stories were left a bit bland and I couldn't connect to some but the main two I felt sympathy for in the end. I think that Ellie and Joel's story kept this game rooted to remind you why things have happened and I personally thought the ending said more than I've seen people comment on. But I'll leave that for you to decide, if you decide to play it. There were a few small SJW pushes but otherwise characters sexualities weren't shoved down your throat like some leaks made it seem and in my opinion added to the overall story. (I'm a big believer in writing a good character vs just having someone be gay or trans and that to be their only trait portrayed, and to me these were decently written characters.) I personally loved it overall, however my love for the first is still greater. I don't think this out does the original story wise but it was nice to see that combat systems and crafting systems were updated and tweaked to be better as well as AI's. As for the Ellie Figure that comes with this edition, it's well made, very large and I think the detail in it is great for the price since it also comes with pins, stickers, an art book and the bracelet. Like a lot of folks who see headlines about gaming, I was exposed to a lot of skepticism in regards to the quality of this game after leaks were revealed to the public. Despite this, I kept my expectations in check. So when I tried out the game for myself, the worst I was expecting was for this to be a bad sequel, and at best maybe almost as good as the first game, which I liked but didn't love. Instead, I got a game that gripped me from beginning to end and became one of my favorite games of 2020; better even than the first game in every possible way. A lot of everyone's concern going into this game was the story. A lot of the worry was going to be this being a simple revenge story. Thankfully, it's anything but. This is a very complex, character driven story with internal conflicts between each beautiful and beautifully voice acted character that's well explored upon on both sides of the scale. And boy am I glad I really got to see things from both sides, because by the end of the game, I grew to love nearly every major character involved, barring one with a missed opportunity and another that's very impulsive, and I felt for their struggles. Far more so than the mostly forgettable side characters of the first game. In regards to the gameplay, this takes the core of what makes the first game and really refines everything to it with quality of life features, including jumping and, in borrowing from the Metal Gear series, going prone. Beyond that, AI are smarter, level design can turn the underside of a playset into a trench, and gunplay feels and sounds more satisfying than before. Despite this, the game will hate you for enjoying the hunts you can do. However, for those who enjoy "self-defense" routes, there's 9 times out of 10 a way to escape any area without needing to kill anyone, despite the popular notion from people who have never played the game that you're forced to kill hundreds before major events in the story line. Graphics and sound is what you expect from a studio whose biggest flaw is striving too hard for perfection. Seriously, Naughty Dog. Don't overwork your employees. We don't actually mind if you take your time or have to tone down the game somewhat just to better manage the workforce. It'll help in the long run. Last thing I have to note before concluding is accessibility. I don't use it myself, but this really is one of the best games for accessibility with a wide variety of options for all types of folks normally unable to play these types of games. It is definitely a must needed standard in games so all types of games can be enjoyed by all. Months after I finished playing this game, it stuck within my mind. I would watch let's plays to see others' experiences, watch analysis videos, share discussions with friends getting into it, and view for myself the issues others had with the game. I can definitely say the story of this game isn't for everyone. It deals with heavy discussions that 2020 wasn't ready for, and even now in 2021 as I write this review, might still not be ready for. But despite that, I could never say this is a bad game, or a bad story. Can definitely say for sure this is nowhere near the worst game of all time. Not even the worst game of 2020. If you have played The Last of Us 1 and enjoyed your time and keep an open mind here, you may just find yourself as engrossed in this sequel as I have.
