  • My fur babies LOVE this food!!
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 4 Pound (Pack of 1)
For the past few months I've been extensively researching for a better food for my 3 small dogs, one is a schnauzer and the other two, yorkies since the the regular dry store bought kibble hadn't been doing my little ones any favors, especially in the weight department. After giving up trying to find something better at the big box stores, I figured I'd have better luck on Amazon. I came across this product while looking at the Sojos brand of freeze dry dog food and figured I'd try this one first since it's cheaper and would probably be better for weight loss and maintenance. One thing I always check is the ingredients and the nutrition panel when comparing different brands and flavors. With this particular food, I noticed that the ingredients on the list were fantastic with all of them free of nasty, harmful GMOs, and many of them being organic which is what I feed the human members of my family. Also worth mentioning, the ingredients are also human grade which is very reassuring so you know it's higher quality and doesn't contain questionable chemicals or ingredients like euthanized shelter animals (crude protein in many cheap-o brands of dog food, seriously. Look it up, it's a real and tragic thing folks). On to the nutrition; If you have a puppy or active dog, this is probably not the best formula, and this company has many to choose from. I would say it's best suited for the less active mature/senior dogs like mine. That said, since they have been eating this food, they've actually had more energy and want to play much more than they used to! The fat content in this particular food is very low in comparison to most other dog foods, the protein content is mostly from the beef and comes in at a moderate, but healthy percentage for omnivores (which I'm sure you know that dogs are omnis and not carnivores such as cats). Dogs absolutely need protein, however, too much protein can burden the liver. This formula also includes a nice panel of vitamins and minerals added in addition to the naturally occurring nutrients from the food's wholesome ingredients. Out of the bag, it's a super green powdery texture with small pieces of what appears to be fruit, oats and veggies. I have to say the first time I measured it out and examined it, I was concerned, especially when I added the hot water. However, once reconstituted and cooled, the product has a lovely thick texture and smell, which is easy for my dogs to eat and digest. For the preparation; Super easy! I just use a large Pyrex jug, fill it will purified water, microwave for a couple minutes then add in the correct amount of measured dry food from the package (which is a plastic resealable bag in a snug cardboard box). I let the food sit to fully absorb the liquid and to cool down, then feed to my anxiously waiting fur babies who are ready to gobble every last drop!! Tip; I personally like to add in some organic Turmeric into the hot water and create a lovely tea base full of antioxidants before adding in the dry mix to add more health promoting benefits. Using hot water creates a much better texture/reconstitution than if you were to add cold or cool water. The best part besides the fact my dogs love the taste and don't waste, feeding time is easy, much more controlled since I am using this to help my dogs achieve a healthier weight, and this seems to last a long time. And, since the box is smaller, it is easier to store than a large bag of dry kibble, or many, many cans of moist dog food. So far the improvements I have seen in all three dogs has been: more energy, weight control/management, better health as per vet checkup since the last. They overall seem to be happier and, as long as this product stays on Amazons subscribe and save program which makes it more cost effective, I'll continue to purchase because the quality I get from this is far better that's what seems to be out there, as for right now. Hope this helps! ... show more

  • Gentle recipe, high quality food
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 7 Pound (Pack of 1)
I switched to this brand a few years ago. My elderly dog had come to a point where he struggled to keep store bought food down. I was making food by scratch, which was a pain and I worried about micro-nutrients. Then I visited a friend who used this food and I gave it a try. My old man loved it and no stomach issues. I switched him over successfully, and my young dog. The old man passed peacefully of old age, healthy and happy. The young dog is now 4 years old and doing great! I use only full grain formulas, since dogs can have heart issues with grain free foods (check UC Davis publications for articles), though Honest Kitchen does test all food for taurine, an important micro-nutrient for dog health. Oddly, my younger dog can’t eat the kibble version. She loves it but gets too loose for some reason. This one needs mixing, but it’s way better than making food from scratch and a minor issue to ensure my dog gets high-quality, throughly tested food. ... show more

  • Not going to rate the flavor of "Human Grade" Dehydrated Dog Food Cereal.
Flavor Name: Beef Size: 4 Pound (Pack of 1)
Food looks very good and well prepared. Smells good after adding the hot water. It is full of very nutritious ingredients that my dog seems to like. I was hoping it included more dog type foods, like meat. I am pretty sure too many carbs are just as fattening for dogs as it is for humans. My dog likes it and I would rather have him eat this than the dried kibble he normally eats. I will keep looking for other options or dehydrated meats that I can add to this. ... show more

  • Puppy with nonstop diarrhea before verses after this food
Flavor Name: Chicken Size: 10 Pound (Pack of 1)
I have a 15 week old puppy that we got at 7 1/2 weeks old. For about five weeks she was having nonstop diarrhea and really nasty smelling and frequent farting. We couldn't figure out what was wrong, we had her on blue Buffalo dry kibble, and had tried some canned foods as well, and her tests for worms came back negative. So I was on the search for the healthiest dog food I can find, and that's what I came across the turkey version of this at Whole Foods, even though she always ate her meal, she always ate it really slow, but I heard that a lot of Huskies are like that so I wasn't too concerned. Once we started mixing this food with her other food, I have never seen her so excited about mealtime. Now when I'm in the process of mixing it she cries out in excitement. And it finally happened, her stools got solid, and her farts slowed down and weren't as stinky. The only problem I have with this food is how expensive it is for how short of time it lasts, we ended up running out of this food, and didn't have enough money at the time to buy more of it, so we had to bring her back to the normal dry kibble. She still ate it, but you could tell the excitement was gone, and it didn't take too long until the diarrhea came back, and the frequent stinky farts came full blown. As soon as payday rolled around, I went on Amazon to see if I can find it cheaper, although it was around the same price, there was that subscribe and save feature for this chicken one that was a little cheaper than the turkey (we actually like the chicken one better than the turkey, even though she likes both, the chicken seems to mix better with water versus the turkey one which looked more liquidy so you couldn't get as much out of it ). We were all excited when it finally came to the house, and sure enough her stools are solid again and her farts are less stinky… Again. To help save money, we've noticed that she's doing just fine when we're mixing the two foods together, not sure how that works but it does. So we are giving her about half a cup of the dehydrated food mixed with water, then mixed with some kibble, she is so obsessed, she even tries to lick her bowl CLEAN when she's done, and likes to lick the spoon I am sturring it together with before she eats. There was even a point when we didn't have anymore of the dehydrated food for over a week, and I was baking something so I put water in a bowl with flour and started mixing, Our little husky came running in the kitchen and crying thinking we were making her some food, LOL, that's when I really started looking into buying her the food again, she really missed it. So bottom line, if you have a puppy that's been having nonstop diarrhea or visible digestion problems, really try this food. And if you're on a tight budget like we are, it still seems to work when you mix the two foods together, just obviously less of both. ... show more
