This is the only dethatching rake I've used and it REALLY digs in even if you don't push it down. It pulls up wads of dead brown grass. But, along with that, I've found a significant fraction of small grass blades that appear to be new young growth. Maybe like 20% of it is green grass. This rake, to me, is like a cross between a leaf rake and a pitch fork. It has the width of a rake, but the tines of a pitch fork... VERY handy for cleaning up the chicken run, raking landscaping projects, or even using on grass like a de- thatcher. (It depends on the angle and the surface that you use it on.)
