  • Good read
Not what I thought it was but over all taught me a little history.

  • Very Comprehensive- Only Book You’ll Need for Fences
Very comprehensive. The Fence Bible is very accurate title for this book. Even contains the history of fences. I feel confident that I will be able to make the best fence for my use when I start my project and a lot of the work is done for you by the book. I am impressed 🤯

  • If you have a basic understanding of how to build a fence this is the guide for you.
I'm in the process of buying a house with a partial fence half of which is old and requires repair. If you have a basic knowledge of how to build a fence or are mechanically inclined this is the best book for you. If you are a total novice then I would recommend a book that walks you through the process step by step. Don't get me wrong, this book breaks it down but not to the extent of place nails here, place posts here, etc. Hope this helps. RDE ... show more

  • The only reference book needed to build your own fence
I bought several books on the subject, but this was the one I referred to when I fenced my backyard. I had no previous experience, and limited carpentry skills. The book was very helpful and well written. I am very pleased with how my fence turned out, and so are my neighbors. I bought the Boston Differ post-hole digger mentioned in the book as well. Good recommendation for a do-it-yourself-er. ... show more

  • I would recommend this book if you can get it from the library but the tips are not worth buying.
It's okay, I probably wouldn't buy it again. I was building a 370 foot, cedar privacy fence and this did provide some helpful tips like using a clear tube with water to find level from post to post or the nifty trick to know your corner is 90 degrees. However, the author suggests strapping two, 2ft levels to each side of a post to determine plumb. It was unrealistic to do this for 52 posts. I also used the recommended braces with clamps on the first 15 or so posts and again, abandoned this because ultimately the post would move even with a brace and it was more hassle than benefit. Put the post in, find plumb, have someone add concrete, check plumb again, move on to the next post and come back in ten minutes and check plumb again. I would recommend this book if you can get it from the library but the tips are worth buying the book. ... show more

Very easy to read and basic directions are easy to follow along. Give great context on how to build a lot of different fences. We reference it a lot even when deciding on what type of fence we want to put up.

  • Pretty Pictures
This book has lots and lots of pretty pictures of fences that are not explained or detailed. There is decent information about rock walls, but otherwise this book really lacks in the substance needed to build fences.

Very helpful as I had never installed a fence before. I would DEFINITELY recommend it. So glad someone suggested it.
