  • Good Book
An older addition since the dog community is constantly adding more dogs. But very helpful.

  • It's a Five Star Woof!
This book was recommended reading for my dog training class. Obviously, one doesn't sit down and read it cover to cover, but it is a wonderful reference book. If you are thinking of buying a pure bred pooch, you should check out this book for the complete low down on your desired dog. Also, if you are trying to understand your All American dog, or figure out his ancestry, this is a great book to help you out. There is a photo or sketch of every pure bred dog recognized by the American Kennel Club with a detailed description of it's disposition and tips to help guide you into a good and respectful relationship with your dog. I highly recommend this book to anyone involved with dogs and especially to those who wish to train dogs. ... show more

  • Almost Every Dog A-Z
The book from the AKC is a dog owner's and pet groomers' bible with great illustrations. As a future pet groomer this books covers the various styles/cuts of the different breeds in an easy to find guide. This is a great book for any groomer who wants to compete and become "Best at Show" at the various competitions. Also your customers (who are very picky) will be grateful you did your homework. It's a great book! ... show more

  • Good for breeds
It's great for learning about the AKC and the standards they use to grade the breeds, but what comes across the strongest is the physical features and how certain personality traits should or should not be penalized. There does not seem to be a lot of information about the dogs themselves; the closest thing to that is a short history of each breed. I also don't agree with the choke-chain training they instruct readers to use in the back of the book. All in all, a good AKC book but not much more to offer. ... show more

  • AKC requirements for registered dogs
This book follows a long line of AKC volumns announcing the latest registration requirements for pedigreed dogs. The information keeps us up to date on AKC changes. Tips on raising dogs bring the latest scientific research to our attention. If you own a pedigreed dog you are most likely aware of this publication. If you are unaware of it. You need to purchase it soon. Invaluable information dwells inside. ... show more

  • The definitive book about the most familiar dog breeds recognized by AKC
This is a gift to my young grandniece in India with an insatiable appetite for knowledge on dogs. She is 11 and might not own a dog until she gets a place of her own. Parents are Orthodox Hindus and owning and feeding a dog meat-based food would be problematic. This book would help her to become familiar with dog breeds ans AKC guidelines on responsible dog ownership. ... show more

  • The AKC Complete Dog Book
Many years ago I obtained a copy of the AKC Complete Dog Book, and it was a BEAUTIFUL compilation of all the recognized breeds and descriptions as well as great color photographs on the center pages of ALL the breeds in action. This new book almost feels "cheap" to me. The paper is flimsy and some of the photos appear very "out-dated". Maybe it's just me, but the portraits of "Purebred Dogs in Art" does not impress me. I guess I should have researched the year of the copyright, as there have recently been quite a few newly recognized breeds to the AKC. ... show more
