I tried gardening in my backyard and it was a epic fail. I am a novice when it comes to gardening. I am so pleased I came across this book. Reading through this book gave me a sigh of relief.     • Good info but poorly organized and not for beginners
I agree with other reviewers that the book contains tons of information. However, from a beginner's perspective, there is far too much "theory" and too little practical information for a book that contains the phrase "Simplified Approach" in the title. I was hoping for more photos, diagrams, lists, and clear do's and dont's, but instead got a treatise on color theory and perspective, a lecture on the chemical composition of soil, and conflicting suggestions on choosing what to plant, where, how, and when. The book is not well organized, and with no glossary it's hard to remember where, exactly, I saw info on choosing soil or a specific container, for example. I think that if you're a pro container gardener, or a "regular" gardener who wants to do more container work, this might be your book. ... show more

As a renter, I've attempted to have a modest container garden that could move with me for years. Every season would seem to be a disappointment whether it would be a disease, insect infestation, root rot, or burnt plants. I WISH I found this book sooner. As an experienced gardener, I knew what I needed, and this book has it. Downsizing a garden from a 1/3 acre yard to a condo takes different mindset and planning.
